Aim

The purpose of this paper is to present a rapid review of the literature that describes and evaluates post-graduate professional integration programs for recently graduated nurse practitioners.

Background

Recently graduated nurse practitioners face numerous challenges upon entry to practice, these include high patient caseloads, lack of confidence and difficulty integrating into the interprofessional team. In response to these challenges, numerous post-graduate professional integration programs have emerged to support the transition of recently graduated nurse practitioners into practice.

Design

A rapid review was conducted following McMaster University Rapid Review Guidebook’s Guidelines.

This study is important as research is needed to determine if there is a difference in ratings or language used in emergency residency applications based on a medical student’s gender. Background: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) common and specialty program requirements stipulate that residents/fellows participate in scholarly activities. The ACGME provides a reporting template tool for scholarly activity to be utilized by all specialties for evaluation annually. In this study, we aimed to: 1) Conduct a content analysis of the specialty scholarly activity requirements for all ACGME-accredited training programs to identify commonalities and variations, and 2) Assess alignment between the specialty scholarly activity requirements and the reporting template tool provided by the ACGME.

Objective: Rural residency rotations have played a significant role in encouraging surgical residents to pursue a career in a rural community. This study reviews the resident caseload of an otolaryngology residency rural rotation in comparison with a traditional primary university-based urban location.

Methods: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) case log system was used to review cases logged by residents during their rural rotations from July 2017 to December 2018. Case log data were compared with a matched resident of similar training experience on the university service during the same time period.

Introduction: Past studies demonstrate that stress and anxiety affect emergency medicine physicians, but the causal factors identified are usually from sources outside the work shift. We attempt to show the relationship between intrinsic factors of a work shift and anxiety perceived by residents, while also examining differing gender responses.

Methods: In 2018, a cross-sectional survey of emergency medicine residents in the United States was distributed anonymously through the Emergency Medicine Residents Association. The survey consisted of demographic questions, novel questions identifying intrinsic factors, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale. Incorporating research education and training in residency curriculum increases the understanding of evidence-based decision-making among doctors in training. Evidence suggests that the addition of research is linearly associated with improvement in clinical competence, and encourages the residents to shape their career as clinical investigators. The current paper was planned to share the experience of adding research into the core curriculum of Operative Dentistry-Endodontics residency programme at a tertiary care university hospital, and to evaluate the outcome achieved with that change.
