Communication is an essential component of patient satisfaction, which can be especially challenging in patients with neurobehavioral symptoms. As an effective form of communication, Patient Welcome Letter (PWL) should be designed in a way to cover a wide range of literacy. We designed a PWL for our Huntington Disease (HD) clinic using readability and suitability measures. Of the 80 patients that received the PWL, 47 filled out the survey. A majority of patients (>90%) found the PWL clear, understandable, and well-organized. The PWL was deemed valuable overall by 91.4% of participants.

Background: Effective patient education promotes successful postoperative outcomes. Nurses in an outpatient surgery center lacked consistent patient education practices and materials.

Purpose: The purpose of the project was to implement an evidence-based multimodal educational strategy for patients who undergo breast implant surgeries.

Methods: At an outpatient plastic surgery center, pre- and post-intervention phone calls were tracked; post-intervention education, documentation, and patient satisfaction data were recorded. Nurses were educated on the new materials, delivery procedures, and electronic health record (EHR) documentation. Advancement in mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device therapy has led to increased use in heart failure therapy and relies on optimized patient education for successful support. The purpose of this 3-manuscript study, guided by the Husserlian transcendental phenomenological method, was to explore the lived experiences of (a) patients with primary mechanical circulatory support education (PMCSE), (b) patients who undergo unplanned MCS implantation with PMCSE, and (c) patients who undergo planned MCS implantation with PMCSE. Patient and caregiver education is recognized as a critical component of stroke rehabilitation and physical therapy practice yet the informational needs of stroke survivors and caregivers are largely unmet and optimal educational interventions need to be established. The objective of this dissertation was to develop a theory and model of “Rehabilitation Education for Caregivers and Patients” (RECAP) in the context of physical therapy and stroke rehabilitation, grounded in the experiences and perceptions of stroke survivors, their caregivers, and physical therapists.

Qualitative research methods with a novel grounded theory approach were used. Potential constructs of RECAP were identified from existing research. …
