Previous research suggests that late sleep restriction (SR) paired with exercise in the morning does not have a significant impact on sport performance measures. However, this evidence is based on research conducted primarily in males. PURPOSE: To examine the effects of late sleep restriction on measures of strength, speed, and power among recreationally active females. METHODS: Twenty-three (23) recreationally active (aerobic physical activity and resistance exercise at least three times a week for six months) females participated in this study (mean age 21.5 years, BMI 23 kg/m2). Chronotype, an individual's natural preference towards activity during certain times of the day, influences the interaction between one's internal circadian rhythms and the external environment. When this is disrupted, it can result in social jet lag (SJL), the misalignment between our sleep/wake schedule on work days and free days. Wildland firefighters grapple with unpredictable and intense demands of their job, making them vulnerable to the challenges posed by SJL. Their duties necessitate abrupt changes in active hours, pushing against their body's inherent circadian preferences. The average start time in middle and high school campuses is earlier than the recommended start time outlined by medical professionals. This report offers the rationale and research-based evidence to help schools understand the need for later start times, as developmentally appropriate for adolescent students.

Independent And Combined Associations Between Physical Activity And Sedentary Time On Sleep Quality Among Chinese Pe And Non-Pe College Students, Dan Li, Xianxiong Li

To investigate the independent and combined associations of physical activity and sedentary time on sleep quality among Chinese PE-majored and non-PE-majored college students. Participants were Chinese college students (N = 2347, Mage = 20 years, 24.6% students majoring in PE). All participants completed three questionnaires: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form, and the Questionnaire on Adolescent Sedentary Behavior. Questionnaires were evaluated to ascertain the subjects’ sleep quality, physical activity level, and sedentary time. Analyses were conducted with a multivariate logistic regression model.
