Feedback, Learning Outcomes And Mathematics Anxiety In A Digital Game Based Learning Approach In Mathematics Education, André Almo Jan 2023

Feedback, Learning Outcomes And Mathematics Anxiety In A Digital Game Based Learning Approach In Mathematics Education, André Almo

Academic Posters Collection

Feedback is a crucial part of learning, and an essential element in digital game-based learning approaches, in which digital games - known as 'serious games' - are used to deliver educational content. Feedback features respond to players' actions within the game, providing them with information and guidance, as well as potentially impacting their learning, motivation and engagement. However, these features may be designed differently, since they include various distinct characteristics and dimensions. This work proposes a new taxonomy for feedback features in serious games, with an emphasis in game design aspects, in order to provide clearer descriptions and distinctions of …

Ambientes De Inclusión Para El Desarrollo Del Pensamiento Numérico Con Población Con Síndrome De Down, Luisa Valeria Escobar Buitrago, Ingry Yuliana Torres Garzón, Juan David Firigua Bejarano

Introductory Calculus: Through The Lenses Of Covariation And Approximation, Caleb Huber May 2020

Introductory Calculus: Through The Lenses Of Covariation And Approximation, Caleb Huber

Graduate Student Portfolios, Professional Papers, and Capstone Projects

Over the course of a year, I investigated reformative approaches to the teaching of calculus. My research revealed the substantial findings of two educators, Michael Oehrtman and Pat Thompson, and inspired me to design a course based upon two key ideas, covariation and approximation metaphors. Over a period of six weeks, I taught a course tailored around these ideas and documented student responses to both classroom activities and quizzes. Responses were organized intonarratives, covariation, rates of change, limits, and delta notation. Covariation with respect to rates of change was found to be incredibly complex, and students would often see it …

Improving The Problem With Problem Solving, Cole Thibert Dec 2017

Improving The Problem With Problem Solving, Cole Thibert

Essential Studies UNDergraduate Showcase

As a prospective math educator who will be teaching in the near future, I was concerned with the idea of preparing my future students for college math courses. I decided to research the effects of teaching students how to appropriately use problem solving strategies in math. My research led me towards looking at the benefits of students becoming better problem solvers and how teachers can implement problem solving into their daily lessons.

When this implementation is successful, students can become more independent with their learning, they are able to work and persevere through challenging problems, and they have a greater …

3d Printing For Mathematics Education, Cecile M. Piret

TechTalks

3D printing is particularly well-suited for teaching concepts of mathematics. We (Drs. Piret and Ellis) have started using 3D printers in a calculus 3 classroom. Our goals are to analyze the impact of the printers on students' understanding and motivation towards calculus, and to further incorporate this new technology in our teaching of mathematics. In this talk, we will show a few examples of projects that were presented to the students in our classes, and we will try to motivate you to also use the printers in your classrooms.
