Historically, Physical Education (PE) teachers have utilized traditional teaching styles for PE instruction. There has been a growing emphasis over the past 20 years, however, for teachers to utilize a variety of teaching styles in PE in order to meet National and State standards along with goals and objectives of learning in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Students with disabilities have lower levels of physical activity compared to typically developing peers, which can impact the development of motor competence needed to enjoy lifelong physical activity. Enjoyment has been linked participation in physical activity. Thus, the purpose of this synthesis was to discover factors that impact enjoyment in physical education for children with disabilities. After a thorough search of the available literature, 10 research articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the critical mass. The purpose of this synthesis was to examine the existing scholarly knowledge regarding impact of peer tutoring programs on students with disabilities and typically developing students in physical education. Previous research identified several factors that contributed to the benefits and barriers of peer tutoring programs in physical education. Studies reviewed within the critical mass had common themes such as increase in socialization among students, engagement in activities, and improvement of skills. The purpose of this synthesis project was to investigate ways of creating successful experiences for children in physical education and athletics. A literature review was conducted in an effort to explore physical activity participation among deaf students, determine barriers to participation and make suggestions for teachers and coaches. Results indicated that deaf children struggle to participate in physical education and sports due to communication barriers and social anxiety. Serious disabilities are diagnosed in approximately 1 in 100 of children who have serious disabilities (Jasma, 1988). The development of the psychomotor domain in children with serious disabilities is typically below the development of their peers without special needs (Jasma, 1988). Generally, children with serious disabilities tend to be sedentary or lack opportunities to participate in physical activity compared with their peers without disabilities (Jasma, 1988). The aim of this study was to determine which instructional strategies athletes with visual impairments and their coaches would prefer during swimming classes. Thirteen athletes with visual impairments and fourteen coaches participated in interviews to reveal their preferences. A thematic analysis was utilized to ensure the analysis was undertaken in a theoretically and methodologically sound manner. Three key themes emerged, each a compilation of a set of subthemes. This study investigated differences in six sport specific personal characteristics as a function of skill level. The characteristics included competitive trait anxiety, trait self-confidence, concentration, mental preparation skills, achievement motivation, and leadership. A self-evaluation questionnaire was administered to students in beginning, intermediate, and advanced physical education activity classes at the State University of New York, College at Brockport. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple comparison test statistics were used to analyze differences for each of the six personal characteristics and a mental toughness composite score across the three groups of performers.
