A Critical Examination Of The Stormwater Education, Based On Sites Parameters, In Landscape Architecture Departments In The Sec, Brandon Doss
Landscape Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
The amount of accessible natural resources is dwindling and water could be the next world crisis. One response to this issue is the creation of methodologies which evaluate sustainability of new land development. A system to address the issues is the Sustainable Sites Initiative. This method was created in 2009 by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the United States Botanic Garden. Their primary goal was to create a metric for rating development to encourage a more sustainable approach. A piece of this evaluation is water management. Landscape architecture is poised to address …
Mainstreaming Climate In The Classroom: Teaching Climate Change Planning, Elisabeth M. Hamin, Daniel J. Marcucci
Mainstreaming Climate In The Classroom: Teaching Climate Change Planning, Elisabeth M. Hamin, Daniel J. Marcucci
Elisabeth M. Hamin
Climate change planning, both mitigation (reducing greenhouse gasses) and adaptation (designing built environments for changed climate conditions), is an area of emerging importance in both planning practice and education. This research examines the uptake of climate issues in planning education programs primarily in the U.S., and compares course content to leading climate change planning practice and research concepts. Studio and seminar courses are emerging in a variety of universities, and are addressing many of the key research concepts for mitigation and adaptation. Beyond stand-alone classes, the article argues the need to mainstream climate considerations in core planning curricula. Modeling this …

UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
This portfolio investigates LARC 331 Site Systems III: Landscape Implementation, a 3rd year undergraduate course that focuses on the implementation of landscape architectural designs, in which students take a previous Site Design studio project and develop this project into a landscape architectural construction package.

Engaging Research And Practice In Creating For Outdoor Multi-Sensory Environments: Facing Future Challenges, Hazreena Hussein, Zaliha Omar
Engaging Research And Practice In Creating For Outdoor Multi-Sensory Environments: Facing Future Challenges, Hazreena Hussein, Zaliha Omar
Hazreena Hussein
This paper engages the users' behaviour, their perception of use in sensory gardens and the reality faced by practitioners designing for these gardens, based on case-studies in the UK. Further investigation will be undertaken at Al-Bukhary International University in Malaysia once the completion of the country's first sensory garden. Interview outcomes showed practitioners concurred on the design aspects that encourage the use of the area while the school staff had no strong views on the aesthetic value. Observation outcomes showed pathway layout encourages behaviour, use and time spent in sensory areas. These outcomes are a significant argument in the conclusion.
Assessing Landscape Construction Course In Landscape Architecture Program, Hazreena Hussein, Shahida Shamsuddin, Ozanul Ezree Othman
Assessing Landscape Construction Course In Landscape Architecture Program, Hazreena Hussein, Shahida Shamsuddin, Ozanul Ezree Othman
Hazreena Hussein
A landscape construction course that incorporates a variety of student centered teaching methods including case studies, small group projects and tutorials were created to help students further their problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills. By incorporating principles from Bloom's Taxonomy in the course, students will move from lower to higher order thinking skills and gain knowledge and understanding within a given tutorials across the topics taught during the semester. Thus, the aim of this paper is to illustrate how Landscape Architectural educators could teach landscape construction course and assess the students learning outcome in sustainable development of the …

Taman Sensori: Kanak-Kanak Berkeperluan Khas, Hazreena Hussein, Md Nasir Daud
Hazreena Hussein
Kajian sebegini …
Patterns Of Seated Activity In Sensory Gardens Among Children Educated In Special Schools, Hazreena Hussein
Patterns Of Seated Activity In Sensory Gardens Among Children Educated In Special Schools, Hazreena Hussein
Hazreena Hussein
This study investigated the seated activity among special schooled children and their adult carers in two sensory gardens in the United Kingdom. Seated activity was established whether the seating was used as intended or whether users preferred to sit on other attributes during their learning session. The objectives of this study are to explore opportunities for users’ activity and their engagement with the attributes, whether activity is possible or if opportunities are not being actualised because of barriers. Observation and behaviour mapping methods were carried out alongside the affordance theory. The outcome suggests that the number of users, the number …
