The explosion of World-Wide Web (WWW) across the Internet is staggering, both in terms of number of users and the amount of activity. However, to date, no reliable characterization exists of WWW users. In this paper, we report results from a survey that was posted on the Web for a month, in January of 1994. There were several goals motivating our survey. First, we wished to demonstrate a proof of concept for WWW technologies as a useful survey medium. This paper outlines the use of computer conferencing to enhance teaching and learning in an undergraduate college course, primarily as a supplement to lectures and class discussions, to implement homework assignments, to facilitate the writing process in writing-intensive courses, and to conduct informal course evaluations.

Theory and practice in the curriculum for preparation of educators of adults have seldom been addressed in the same places or time frames. Much less, there have been few attempts to bring theory and practice together in any coherent way. Nevertheless, expressions of concern and discontent from adult educators and the general adult populace involved in learning experiences abound which question "why do adult educators violate in their own programs everything that is known about how adults learn?"
