Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 2834. Business and personal correspondence, receipts, and ephemera of Mary E. Thurman, an elementary school teacher abroad in the 1950s and 1960s. She later became a librarian at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Kentucky, and authored several children’s books. Includes paper valentines from students, a letter in Japanese,and two Japanese floral prints.

Typescripted diary of Emeline Holden Richmond, Newark, New Jersey, kept from 14 August through 10 October 1826 during her journey to Mississippi, where she planned to serve as a teacher of Indian children and Presbyterian missionary. Autobiography of Peter Vertrees, an African-American native of Edmonson County, Kentucky, who served as a cook in the Confederate Army, 6th Kentucky Cavalry. Afterward, he was an educator and Baptist minister, chiefly in Sumner County, Tennessee. Includes associated biographical data, and the autobiography of his third wife Diora.
