The Riggs family lived with and interacted with members of several indigenous groups while setting up and operating the school; the book records the traditions and customs of this with whom the Riggs' interacted.
Contains numerous images and drawings. Drawings were made by Reuben Dorian, a Santee student.
The book was printed by students at the Santee Normal Training School.
