The history of the New England regional economy — its attenuated post-World War II decline and subsequent aggressive renewal — reveals an intensifying relationship between economic resurgence, the supply and continuing demand for professional manpower, and the results of academic research and development. Arc From Implementation To Payoff Decade And Beyond, Stuart Seely Sprague

Between 1965 and 1974, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) spent in excess of $2 billion. Since 1974, that figure has climbed to more than $4 billion, with the bulk of these funds spent for road building and vocational schools. Despite this outpouring of funds, many in the region have never heard of the ARC. Part of the problem is ARC's lack of credibility, caused by less than spectacular results.

Two reports offer insight into the personality and working conditions of the Kentucky Coal miner. Dr. George E. Dickinson's survey measures death anxiety among miners; Dr. Stuart S. Sprague's correlated report tracks the often volatile effort to legislate and enforce safety regulations. Both reports arrive at one perhaps startling conclusion: many miners agree - and are somewhat supported by statistics - that they themselves are most frequently to blame for accidents.

The Effects Of Genre And Tone On Undergraduate Students Preferred Patterns Of Response To 2 Short-Stories And 2 Poems, Jane Ann Zaharias

To assess the effects of textual variation on students' preferred patterns of literary response, 166 college undergraduates were asked to read two poems and two short stories. They then completed a modified version of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement's Response Preference Measure for each literary work. Data from the response preference inventories were analyzed by means of a two-factor repeated-measurement MANOVA, with genre and tone as the within-subjects variables. Work And Life Away From Work: Predictors Of Faculty Satisfaction, Mary Deane Sorcinelli

As one aspect of a study on faculty career development, relationships between work and life away from work were explored for 112 faculty members. The sample, from one department in the humanities and one in the natural sciences and from two professional schools, was stratified by academic rank and sex. The study employed in-depth interviews followed by questionnaires. Results of regression analyses indicated that both aspects of work and life outside of work were related to work satisfaction; likewise, work as well as nonwork conditions were associated with satisfaction in life away from work. Purpose of the Study

The study was conducted to determine what vocational agriculture instructors, teacher educators and state supervisors in vocational agriculture perceived as being the task priorities of Nebraska vocational agriculture instructors.

The primary purpose of this study was to identify factors limiting student participation in supervised occupational experience (SOE) programs in Nebraska, as perceived by Nebraska vocational agriculture instructors. Specific objectives included:

  1. Identify SOE-related characteristics of Nebraska vocational agriculture instructors.
  2. Determine the Importance of selected school district, vocational agriculture, economic, student, and social factors in limiting student participation in SOE.
  3. Determine differences among factors limiting student participation in SOE by length of contract, number of SOE on-site instructional visits per year, hours employed, in addition to vocational agriculture duties and years of teaching experience.
