Ouachita Baptist University will begin construction on an NCAA-compliant track & field complex to serve as a home venue for its thriving cross country and track & field teams. Scheduled to be completed by Summer 2024, the complex will occupy land on the north side of campus adjacent to the cross country course and along the Ouachita River.

Sports Data Analysis and Visualization isa required course for all Sports Media and Communications majors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The course is an introduction to using data and code to reveal stories in sports data. Sports media students, as a general rule, have very little experience with code, so the course utilizes a considerable amount of customized content specifically tailored to the course and aimed at the level of the typical student. Previous iterations of the course used an online static textbook, where students were expected to follow along and execute code blocks, but the book had no facilities …

Many internet users often consult Wikipedia to read a quick reference on a subject, but the source tends to be viewed as unreliable by the academic community. Nevertheless, journalism and public relations courses can help improve Wikipedia. Four undergraduate courses — News Editing, In-depth Reporting, Sports Media, and Research Methods in Public Relations — in a journalism and mass communications department at a regional, four-year university in the southeast of the United States incorporated Wikipedia. This article discusses the benefits, considerations, and challenges that an instructor might experience when using Wikipedia.

A team of nine Ouachita Baptist University students in the Ouachita Sports Digital Network (OSDN) recorded and produced their first series of broadcasts the weekend of Jan. 23-24 from a new production trailer, providing coverage of Tiger swimming and basketball events to fans after a 10-month pause on Ouachita and overall NCAA Division II athletic events due to COVID-19.

An Intervention To Support Collegiate Student-Athletes In The Transition To Meaningful Lifetime Physical Activity, Melinda Smith, Diane L. Gill, Erin J. Reifsteck
HNES Educator Scholarship
Former student-athletes (SAs) experience unique barriers to maintaining their physical activity, such as loss of team support, less motivation without specific goals, and identity-related changes. Informed by a self-determination theory framework, the authors developed a 6-week Pilates-based intervention to support the physical and psychological wellness of SAs by fostering self-determined motivation and basic psychological needs satisfaction as they make the transition to physically active alumni. In this case study, the authors outline the development and implementation of the program with final-year SAs (N = 12) at a Division III institution. This paper looks at the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Black community. It explores how they are necessary in order to bring a sense of belonging to the Black community and how they can grow. They are critically underfunded compared to other universities/colleges but this can change with the sports that they have to offer.

The Psychology major from Murrieta was selected to represent Dominican in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum (CSF) June 5-8 at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis. Howard was one of 200 student-athletes chosen from 1,100 applicants nationwide to participate in the conference. CSF is an annual educational forum sponsored by the NCAA that brings together student-athletes to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on intercollegiate athletics. The CSF is designed to assist student-athletes in charting their career paths, to give them the opportunity to network and to learn from current athletics professionals.

In just its fourth year of competition, the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers wrestling program sent five qualifiers to the NCAA Division II Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, and finished fourth in the nation. All five Tigers earned All-American honors during the tournament and Head Coach Kevin Ward was named the NCAA D-II Coach of the Year.
