This session offers you insight on how one had to pivot with nearly 300 students during COVID and come out shining. The goal is to see how technology can be used to offer successful virtual events for large section courses and do so better than the traditional in-person offering because of increased industry participation and preparation for the post-COVID work-world. I will walk you through why the change happened, why we kept it virtual post-COVID, and how you can offer a virtual mock interview to nearly 300 students in 2.5 hours and have both students and industry raving about the …

Trader Joe's Case Study, Madisson Magee
Honors Theses
My senior project is focused around analyzing Trader Joe’s business model and writing a case study focusing on the management strategies of the company. I wanted to know what made them so successful and recognizable as brand in the grocery store industry. My case study is based off of a Harvard Business School published case. Not only did I want to understand their success, but also what factors impact them and what issues they face in maintaining a successful business model. To do this, I analyzed many aspects of their company, where they stand against competitors and internal and external …

Best Practices In Industry And Cse Senior Design, Conner Hallett

The widespread use of Agile practices in the software development industry creates the need for new college graduates to be adept in Agile processes and teams. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Senior Design courses gives students an introduction to such processes, but is met with many challenges in doing so, such as time constraints and student inexperience. Following a detailed look at the Scrum Agile framework and its expanded practices in industry, potential improvements for CSE Senior Design’s practice of Agile are suggested. These include the creation of resource forums for students to accelerate the early …

One of the biggest problems facing fresh Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering graduates intending to start their post-college careers is their lack of experiential learning and practical skills in real-world software development. Creating Space In The Curriculum For Workplace And Generic Skills, Brian Campbell
Creating Space In The Curriculum For Workplace And Generic Skills, Brian Campbell
Stream 6: Global University
There are competing forces affecting university credibility. On the one hand there is credibility in the competitive academic environment that results in the expansion of the curriculum. And on the other hand there are the increasing pressures from outside the academy for university graduates to have economically relevant workplace skills. In this paper I analyze some of the difficulties that result from these competing pressures and speculate on how they might be resolved. The example of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology is used as a new university in attempting to establish its credibility. I suggest that collegial review …

Stream 6: Global University
The past 15 years have been ones of rapid change not only in the ever growing impact of ICT on everyday life but also locally in terms of talent development and delivery for ICT graduates. Enterprise Ireland, Forfás, the HEA, the IDA, Industry bodies such as ICT Ireland, The Irish Computer Society, Engineers Ireland and IBEC as well as government departments recognised the criticality of supply of talented graduates to Ireland’s ICT sector and took measures …

I feel honoured in being asked to give this address as one of the the University's foundation professors in 1991. I am grateful for this opportunity, particularly as it comes in the year of my retirement from full-time teaching and as Dean of the Faculty of Business of this University. The title of this talk, "EDUCATION FOR BUSINESS- THE WAY I SAW IT AND SEE IT", implies that much of what I am going to say this evening comes from personal experience of 32 years of involvement in the education of business students, that is, from 1960 through 1991. Besides …
