Understanding Community College Transfer Student Experiences: Academic And Social Engagement At A Private Four-Year Institution, Hezal Patel

The purpose of this study was to understand the academic and social engagement experiences of community college transfer students at a private four-year institution. Approached through the lens of a conceptual critical framework for transfer student research advanced by Laanan and Jain (2017), and using a qualitative narrative methodology, this study collected the stories of 12 community college transfer students attending a private four-year institution to understand their engagement experiences. Restorying participants’ narratives and multiple rounds of coding including: deductive coding, open and in vivo coding and process coding revealed the findings for this study. Understanding The Engagement Of Transfer Students In Four-Year Institutions: A National Study, Martina Ghusson

The purpose of this study is to examine whether transfer status and type matter for student engagement and if so, what student characteristics affect this relationship. Data from senior students at four-year institutions across the United States who completed the National Survey for Student Engagement (NSSE) in 2009 were used. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression were employed to explore the relationship between transfer type, student characteristics and student engagement by benchmark.
