This study researched Tennessee self-contained teacher perceptions of educational experiences that lead to students’ applying to Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSIDs). This quantitative study utilized a survey, completed anonymously by Tennessee self-contained high school teachers to investigate what self-contained teachers do and what educational experiences lead a student to apply to a TPSID. A chi-square test of independence resulted in one significant result; students are more likely to apply to a TPSID if they participated in non-academic school events and/or activities. Students must independently complete academic literacy tasks--including reading analytically to identify problems, resolving problems that arise, and using writing to demonstrate advanced knowledge acquisition--if they are to be successful in courses across their university careers. However, a significant portion of students arrives at the university underprepared to meet these expectations for academic literacy.

This study examined the relationship between dual enrollment participation in high school and successful transition to post-secondary institutions for first year students. The sample consisted of a random sample of first-time students enrolled at four-year, two-year, and technical colleges in North Louisiana.

Participants completed the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships First Year Out Student Survey. The results were analyzed based on characteristics such as ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, School Performance Scores (SPS) of high school attended, ACT scores, high school cumulative grade point average, first term postsecondary grade point average, and type of postsecondary institutions selected by dual enrollment …
