Assessing Feeling States And Enjoyment Of Various Exercise Activities, Kaitlyn Wusk
Assessing Feeling States And Enjoyment Of Various Exercise Activities, Kaitlyn Wusk
Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects
To maintain physical health, the American College of Sports Medicine (2022) recommends general exercise guidelines for healthy adults. A lack of adherence to these recommendations may be attributable in part to feeling states and enjoyment while exercising. The study utilized surveys to evaluate feeling states and enjoyment of various exercise activities to determine which type of group exercise most successfully induces changes in feeling states and if a positive correlation exists between feeling state changes and enjoyment. Students enrolled in the Fitness for Living course at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) were surveyed before and after eleven distinct …

Experiences Of Teachers Who Have Taught Physical Education Remotely: A Qualitative Study, Danielle Causer Brabston
Experiences Of Teachers Who Have Taught Physical Education Remotely: A Qualitative Study, Danielle Causer Brabston
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to understand and describe the essence of the experiences of teachers who have taught physical education remotely. The problem is physical education is a core curriculum subject that is designed for in-person instruction and is not easily adaptable to an online setting. The central research question that this study sought to address was what are the experiences of K-12 physical education teachers who taught P.E. remotely? The theory guiding of this study is Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration as it details how people can adapt and adjust in response to stressful situations …

Teens Teach Nutrition Virtually To Youth During Covid-19: Improved Leadership Skills And Health Behaviors, Wendy S. Wolfe, Jacqueline Davis-Manigaulte, Dana M. Wheeler, Emma R. Dhimitri, Josie G. Ford, Kieu A. Phan, Dylan G. Ratnarajah
The Journal of Extension
The Choose Health Action Teens (CHAT) program of Cornell Cooperative Extension engages teens to teach a nutrition curriculum to younger youth, with the goal of enhancing the leadership skills and health behaviors of the teen teachers. Due to COVID-19, an in-person CHAT program in New York City was converted to virtual and implemented online during Summer 2020. Twelve teens, mentored by eight college interns, taught youth virtually in their homes. Quantitative and qualitative assessments demonstrated improvement in teen leadership and facilitation skills and health behaviors, and suggest that converting this type of programming to a virtual environment can be successful.
Beyond The Surface: Understanding The “Blurred Lines” Of Sexual Dynamics And Consent In Trinity College's Hookup Scene, Zoe Kon
Senior Theses and Projects
This thesis explores the complex interplay of sexual behaviors, consent, and campus culture at Trinity College through qualitative ethnographic research. Delving into the nuances of hookup culture, a prevalent social phenomenon, the research examines how it often blurs the boundaries between consensual and non-consensual sexual interactions. Thirty in-depth interviews with Trinity College students reveal the intricate dynamics of consent communication and understanding within this context. The findings highlight significant gaps in students' communication about boundaries and consent, driven by the pressures of social capital and the normalization of alcohol-fueled encounters. The theme of blurred lines emerges as a central issue, …

Trends In Substance Use And Mental Health Among Adolescents In Georgia, 2002-2022, Saumya S. Palipudi, Bangaru Talli Palipudi, Murty Komanduri
Georgia Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Conference
Background: While substance use and absence of mental health disorders among youth in the United States (US) have declined over the past two decades, post COVID-19 pandemic, these conditions have increased significantly with notable disparities, and witnessed a crisis in public health. In 2022, 24.7% or 6.1 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the US had either Major Depressive Episodes (MDE) or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and 3.7 percent had both in the prior year2. Increased stress, lack of peer connections, parental abuse, and poor mental health conditions were attributed to this increase in substance use3-7 …
Incorporating A High Fidelity Transgender Simulation Into Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum, Kacee Child, Jenniepearl Spencer
Incorporating A High Fidelity Transgender Simulation Into Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum, Kacee Child, Jenniepearl Spencer
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects: College of Nursing
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students participating in a high-fidelity transgender patient simulation. The aims were to increase student knowledge and confidence to improve communication and provide more inclusive and equitable care.
Healthcare providers are not adequately prepared to manage the unique health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Nurses are ideally positioned to address gaps in LGBTQ healthcare by providing culturally competent care. Yet, LGBTQ health education is lacking in most undergraduate nursing school curriculums.
Methods
62 undergraduate nursing students participated in a post-surgical …
