Intramural Sports Leadership: Exploring The Impact Of Being An Intramural Sports Official On Leadership Skills, Shan Yu Paracka

This study focuses on the leadership development of intramural sports student officials at a med-sized public institution in the northeastern United States. Twenty-six total intramural student officials participated in the study that were evenly mixed between veteran officials and first time officials. The data shows that while there is a change in the scores from the pre-test and the post-test, there is a high probability of this being a random occurrence.

Purpose: For more than 100 years, participation in interscholastic athletics has been a major part of American high schools’ extracurricular offerings. As public-school districts struggle to meet the needs of the No Child Left Behind legislation, many changes require additional expenditures. Funding presents a constant challenge. Extracurricular activities, including interscholastic sports, are often sacrificed in funding decisions. The purpose of this study was to compile and present an organized and complete history of the Men's Intramural Program at Brigham Young University.
The Brigham Young University Intramural Program had its beginning early in Brigham Young Academy history. The intramural program originated as an outgrowth of the physical education instructional program. Prior to 1954 the intramural program was part of the Physical Education Department and the Chairman of that department gave leadership to the intramural program by assigning part-time directors and student managers to organize sporting events. It was the purpose of this paper (1) to study the objectives of intramural sports for youth, (2) to show that football, played as an intramural sport stressing physical conditioning, fundamental skills, and game competition can be of great value to boys who are not qualified for the varsity team, and (3) to suggest methods and plans for operating an intramural football program in a junior high school.
