Nashville, Tennessee, is known as the Athens of the South because of its reputation as a center of learning. The city’s commitment to education goes back to the days of its founding as a village on the extreme Western frontier of the United States. In 1785, five years after Nashville was first settled, Davidson Academy, an advanced classical school, was established. At the same time, numerous private schools operated in the Nashville area, providing many of the region’s children with a basic education.
During the first quarter of the nineteenth century Nashville moved closer to becoming a major educational center. …

In 1989, President George Bush. and the Nation's fifty governors, held a historic education summit that culminated in the adoption of six National Education Goals. These six broad goals were intended to serve as a framework for future reform efforts. The sixth goal of the United States' National Educational Goals states:

This collection is composed of one scrapbook and several folders of materials related to the Huntington High School commemoration of Mae Newman’s retirement as principal. The collection is substantially composed of correspondence to Newman on this event as well as a wooden scrapbook featuring a significant number of images from her tenure as principal, estimated between 1957 and 1963. Photographs document student life and faculty life at Huntington High School. Foldered items include correspondence and telegrams to Newman, as well as a scrapbook cover, newspaper clippings, and a program for her retirement party. A considerable amount of research conducted in Europe and elsewhere except in Pakistan indicates that the in-service teacher education programmes facilitated in the implementation and institutionalization of change at school level geared towards the school improvement process (Dalin et.al, 1992). In the past, the in-service education programmes for teachers in Pakistan received little attention of the government since its focus was on the quantitative expansion rather than qualitative augmentation of education. The teachers who attended in-service education programmes found their experiences as a ‘luxury activity’.
