The purpose of the study was to develop a model faculty handbook to promote a shared vision and a collaborative school culture. To accomplish this purpose, a review of related literature was conducted. Related information and materials from selected sources were obtained and analyzed. Additionally, specific information and forms were adapted and developed to serve an elementary faculty.

This project was undertaken to develop a library policy manual for the Selah School District libraries. Topics were collected from a variety of venues, manuals on the Internet,the.librarian list serv LM-NET, American.LibraryAssociation and the Washington Library Media Association. Lists generated from these sources were then narrowed down to the important management and operations topics. It was determined that substitutes in the library would need the information to manage the library, utilize the checkout system and enforce library policies, therefore those sections are in the front of the manual. This project examined preventative and responsive safety plans that improved the educational climate of schools through the successful elimination of negative physical, mental and emotional threats to students and employees. The review of current research found that schools were more successful in reducing or eliminating safety threats when a comprehensive school safety program was collaboratively developed and implemented Furthermore, a comprehensive school safety plan that was made easily accessible to every member of the staff and that was assessed continuously also played a vital role to the success of the school safety plan. The relationship of the Washington State Learning Assessment, (WASL) math scores between two 4th-grade classes in the greater Wenatchee area was compared. Class A listened to classical music before taking the test and Class B did not listen to music before taking the test. Any significant differences between their scores were evaluated . The average of each class's test scores was compared without any student's name listed. This study was a normal educational assessment being performed in a normal school setting and parental permission was not required for such activities. The professional literature on the configuration of flexible reading groups for reading instrnction in a regular first grade classroom was examined to determine if flexible grouping yields any benefit to students who have been assessed to be below grade level in reading. The research showed support for the idea that flexible, fluid grouping is an accelerant to producing higher levels of reading improvement. As a result, an instructional handbook was created to aid educators in the implementation of flexible reading group instruction.

Keyboarding is an enhancing tool in the writing process of elementary school children in grades one through four. Studies show that learning computer keyboarding with appropriate software and instruction in the elementary grade level is a skill that is proactive towards student growth in their own writing skills. The development of supplemental keyboarding and writing activities and assessment rubrics are presented. A total of ten different technologically enhanced writing activities are presented for use in the classroom or a lab setting. With a statewide pilot of the 5th grade science Washington Assessment of Student Leaming (WASL) in the spring of 2003, all elementary schools were tiying to prepare their students to meet the standards. At this time, the only resources schools had for preparation was a glimpse of the first criterion-referenced assessment, the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), Grade level Expectations (GLEs) and a "release booklet" of sample items distributed to 5th grade science teachers. This project examined preventative and proactive behavior interventions and strategies that maximized learning and minimized inappropriate behavior. The review of current research found that schools were more successful in reducing or eliminating violent behavior when a positive school wide behavior program was collaboratively developed, implemented, and frequently monitored over time. Included is a K- 5 Behavior Intervention Guide that focused on preintervention support for students using various forms of positive recognition, written expectations, and proactive behavior interventions that reinforce appropriate behavior. Many children do not have adequate access to print. To rectify this in her school, the author created an ongoing Book Swap Room. The author documented the reading growth of students by looking at their reading test data in conjunction with records of the number of books traded in the Room. A family survey was used on three occasions to determine book ownership in the home of students, and a student survey was used to determine whether the Book Swap Room was achieving its desired goal of reinforcing book ownership.
