Problem

The Dolch Word List has been used as a basic list of sight words which children should learn. The purpose of this study was to compare the new words introduced in seven basal reading series on grades one through three with the Dolch word list of 220 words.

Method

After the basal reading series were chosen, the alphabetical listing of the words was compiled with the following information: the words the grade level for each series, and indication of Dolch words. This list was then used to find the percentage of Dolch words on each level of each basal …

Problem

While global forecasts of pupil populations are vital to educational planning, projections at micro-level are even more pertinent to detailed planning. In Jamaica, the need for local level forecasts becomes particularly apparent every September, when there is great pressure from would-be pupils on urban school accommodation.

The review of literature was aimed at identifying projection methods feasible for micro-level applications. Seventh-day Adventist schools have long been dissatisfied with the graded school as an answer to educational organization which would be in harmony with the writing of one of the founders of the church, Ellen G. White. Nongraded teaching seems to incorporate many of the ideas presented in her writings as a guideline for Seventh-day Adventist schools. It was the purpose of the present study to determine the attitudes of parents, students, and board members before and after implementation of a nongraded program.
