The Relationship Between New Jersey Primary Teachers’ Perceptions Of One-To-One Device Programs And Their Stage Of Adoption, Frances Amato

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Interest in one-to-one (1:1) device programs, where schools provide each student with their own computing device, has increased across the United States. The problem this study addressed was whether primary teachers’ perceived usefulness, ease of use, organizational support, and technical support of a 1:1 device program is related to their reported stage of adoption. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between primary school teachers’ perceptions of a 1:1 device program and their self-reported stage of adoption. The theoretical framework guiding the study included the diffusion of innovations theory and the technology acceptance model. Data were …

Teachers’ Use Of Screencast Feedback To Improve Secondary Students’ Writing, Safwa Abdul-Aziz

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Many students struggle with decoding and implementing feedback given to them on writing assignments. Researchers and instructors have used various technologies and strategies to improve students’ uptake of feedback given on written assignments, one of which is a form of video feedback called screencasting. Research has been conducted on students’ perspectives of screencasting feedback at the university level but has been more limited at the secondary level. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore screencast feedback as a strategy to support secondary students in their effort to improve their writing. The feedback triangle by Yang and Carless …

Professional Development In Technology Integration For Mathematics Teachers In Title 1 Schools, Nate-Nna Kalu Abba

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

For teachers to increase their instructional abilities, it is imperative they are provided with instructional support and an engaging technological professional work environment. The need is particularly great for math teachers at low socioeconomic status (SES) schools. The purpose of this basic correlational quantitative study was to explore teachers’ attitudes about professional growth and leadership, digital age work and learning, and digital age learning experiences and assessments, and their level of technology integration for high school mathematics teachers in Title 1 low SES schools. Bandura’s social cognitive learning theory provided a framework for understanding self-efficacy and stages of teacher’s adoption …

Junior High Teachers' Perception On Consistent Implementing Technology-Based Gamification, Ali Tootian Jan 2022

Junior High Teachers' Perception On Consistent Implementing Technology-Based Gamification, Ali Tootian

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The problem investigated was many junior high teachers do not consistently implement technology-based gamification (TBG) within class activities despite evidence showing it as a useful learning tool for student engagement. This study aimed to explore why junior high teachers do not consistently implement TBG and identify the barriers and potential solutions from teachers' perspectives. A modified technology acceptance model and diffusion of innovation theory were combined with cultural and local aspects to generate a comprehensive gamification acceptance model. A basic qualitative approach was suitable for the study. The research questions sought junior high teachers' perceptions about consistently implementing TBG, the …

Influence Of Online Professional Learning Networks On Teacher Self-Efficacy For Using Information Communication Technology, Jeremy A. O'Toole

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Information communication technology (ICT) is increasingly used to enhance teaching and learning, but many teachers lack mastery-level experiences using these computing technologies in the classroom. To further their knowledge, some teachers have turned to online professional learning networks (PLNs) for development, but further research is needed to explore how and why these networks change teachers’ practice. Framed by Albert Bandura's theory of self-efficacy, the purpose of this study was to explore the influence of online PLNs on teachers’ perceptions of their technological self-efficacy for implementing ICT in the classroom. The research question of this basic qualitative study with interviews addressed …

How Technology Teachers And Coaches Use Digital Tools In Instruction, Cecil Winston Mittoo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

While technology teachers and coaches have successfully integrated digital tools into their schools’ curricula, many classroom teachers still struggle with that integration. Not enough is known about how technology teachers and coaches plan and implement instruction using digital tools, and this knowledge may be useful for classroom teachers. This basic qualitative study explored some digital tools such as interactive whiteboards (IWBs), desktop computers, iPad devices, and apps used in instruction for pedagogy and content. The Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge (TPACK) was the study's conceptual framework. The purpose of the study was to determine how using digital tools in instruction …

Understanding Western Pacific Teachers’ Perceptions And Experiences Implementing Technology In The Classroom, Roque Castro Indalecio

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

At a Western Pacific Region school district with six public high schools, district administrators implemented an educational technology training program (ETTP) to improve technology integration in the classroom as measured by the Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool, but there was no follow-up to determine how the teachers perceived the ETTP and to identify the experiences of teachers related to instructional technology after taking the district training. This basic qualitative study, guided by the technology acceptance model, addressed this problem in the district by exploring how the teachers perceived the technology professional development program provided by the district and the teachers’ …

How Student-To-Teacher Interactions Encourage Self-Regulated Learning In One Computer-Based Alternative Program, Kristen D. Milton Watt

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The purpose of this exploratory case study was to examine how student-to-teacher interactions encourage students to develop self-regulated learning (SRL) habits and skills. Zimmerman's social cognitive theory of SRL, which supposes a relationship between academic success and SRL, is used as a conceptual framework. The representative case is a computer-based alternative education program for students at risk of dropping out of high school in grades 10-12. The teachers worked one-on-one with students in a computer lab while the students engaged in mastery-based learning using Apex Learning Inc. digital curriculum. Five teachers responded to three questionnaires to examine how student-to-teacher interactions …

Level Of Technology Implementation And The Personality Traits Of Adventist School Principals, Gustavo Martin Jan 2019

Level Of Technology Implementation And The Personality Traits Of Adventist School Principals, Gustavo Martin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Previous studies analyzed how personality traits relate to education, but not in relation to technology implementation. Limited knowledge can lead to inadequate professional development. This study provided insight on the “level of technology implementation” (LoTi) and the personality traits of private school principals. The theoretical frameworks of this research were the Big Five Personality Trait Model and Concerns-Based Adoption Model. The research study answered the question of the relationship, using Kendall's Tau-b, between the LoTi and each of the personality traits: extraversion, openness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and agreeableness of Adventist school principals using a quantitative, non-parametric, correlational study approach. Every Adventist …

Middle School Teachers' Acceptance And Use Of Edmodo To Sustain Networked Collaboration, Howard Jehu Brent Jan 2019

Middle School Teachers' Acceptance And Use Of Edmodo To Sustain Networked Collaboration, Howard Jehu Brent

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Although some middle school teachers integrate social media platforms into instruction, they generally use traditional and teacher-centered strategies rather than those that are innovative and student-centered. A gap exists in the literature on how teachers could use social media tools such as Edmodo to engage middle school students for innovative online collaboration. This qualitative case study explored the factors that contributed to the acceptance and use of Edmodo by middle school teachers in a Mid-Atlantic urban school district. Specifically, the research explored how teachers leveraged Edmodo to initiate and sustain networked collaboration with their students. The Unified Theory of Acceptance …
