Lecture Instruction Versus A Personalozed System Of Instruction: Effects On Individuals With Differing Achievement Anxiety And Academic Achievement, Edward Joseph Jacko
Doctoral Dissertations
A relatively new instructional technique called the Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) has been highly praised by both instructors and students as a development in higher education which promises better student performance, higher morale, greater teacher effectiveness, and sometimes reduced cost of instruction. Studies of PSI conducted by others have been concerned, for the most part, with course examination scores and course grades in a variety of content, fact-oriented courses including psychology, engineering, library science, and physics.
An important issue which has not been investigated is the comparative effectiveness of the PSI method and the lecture method of instruction with …

Behavior Modification, Lois Cox
Behavior Modification, Lois Cox
Honors Theses
Even though this seems to be a relatively new area of education, as early as 1920 behavior modification has been used in correcting behavior.
J.B. Watson had four basic ideas in this area: 1. The educational response of fear could be conditioned. 2. It would transfer to stimuli other than the initial stimulus which caused the fear. 3. The fear would last over a period of time. 4. It could be unlearned.
These four items are very similar to the techniques used today in the modification program. Watson's experiment with a small child named Albert proved his above theories to …

The Effects Of Teacher In-Service Training In Values Clarification On Attitudes Of Elementary School Students Toward Themselves, School, And The Teacher, Michael Nathan Coy
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
PROBLEM: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of implementing a teacher in-service training program in values clarification on the attitudes students develop toward themselves, school, and the teacher.
PROCEDURE: Two kindergarten through sixth grade elementary schools served as the experimental and control groups for the study. Ten classes of third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students participated in the experimental group and eight third through sixth grade classes of students served in the control group. The teachers in the experimental school received sixteen days of in-service training in values clarification between August 31, 1973 and …

Effects Of Instructions And Stimulus Representation On Selective Learning In Children, Adele E. Gottfried
Effects Of Instructions And Stimulus Representation On Selective Learning In Children, Adele E. Gottfried
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Selective learning patterns of children were investigated using incidental learning methodology. Since incidental, in contrast to intentional learning occurs in the absence of instructions which prepare the subject for later retention tests, a subject has relatively more freedom to choose to attend to and learn only a portion of the presented information (thus exercising selectivity). Previous research suggested that selectivity seemed to increase or decrease with development in relation to different incidental learning paradigms. For studies in which incidental stimuli were presented without a concurrent intentional task (Type 1) incidental learning increased with age indicating decreased selectivity. For studies in …
