This country was built on gangs, you know, I think this country still is run on gangs. Tupac Shakur, Revolution Crenshaw (1991) changed the discussion of diversity and institutional racism by introducing the critical-theoretical concept of intersectionality. Those in power—those with money—make the rules. Once institutionalized and backed financially, rules are difficult to break. In modern K-12 and higher education, some of these rules relate to students’ and families’ ability to afford course and co-curricular materials. Student Peer Mentoring In Australian Higher Education: An Investigation, Nick Mcghie

This thesis is an exploration of student peer mentoring programs which are increasingly popular in Australian higher education. The thesis investigates the motivations behind student peer mentoring programs offering transition-in support for students. The thesis investigates whether programs are run to benefit the students or to serve the interests of the institution. The thesis explores the current context of higher education in Australia and moves to a case study of the University of Wollongong. Interview data is used to analyse how staff and students navigate the institutional narrative surrounding student peer mentoring and its uses.

Too often higher education officials equate successful enrollment management with determining the appropriate financial-aid package, assuming the student matriculates. However, there are competing theories as to why a student may be attracted to a particular college. Could it be the "buzz"? This study examines the relationship between buzz and bucks with respect to enrollment objectives. Research findings indicate that it is not an either-or proposition. Moreover, marketers are presented with an ethical responsibility to safeguard the public.
