A trend in education for the past sixty years has been the gradual development of a variety of procedures involving parents in the education of children. Research that indicates the interdependence of the home and the school in educating children has been the major influence in the development of these programs. Today there is general agreement among educators that the home and school must work cooperatively to resolve children's educational problems. The purpose of this study is to discover the influence exerted by the family, the peer group, and the community, on adolescent smoking. The study will attempt to prove that (1) the environment with the greatest discontinuity, as reflected in the variation of standards and attitudes toward adult and adolescent smoking, will be the most conducive to adolescent smoking; (2) that the frequency of adolescent smoking is directly related to the feeling and attitude his peer group holds toward adolescent smoking.
