The purpose of this study was to (1) determine the effectiveness of utilizing positive reinforcement techniques to improve listening awareness during the process of receiving verbal instructions; (2) evaluate the use of reinforcement schedules with and without positive reinforcement; (3) determine to what extent a formal program utilizing reinforcement procedure compares with the absence of such procedure in a classroom.

It is the intention of this study to gain some insight into the problem of starting boys and girls into school at an age when they may be too immature to cope with the pressures of the school environment. The purpose of his study, then, is to locate, compare and analyze some of the differences that seem to exist between the two sexes. This study will consist to two separate by integral sections: the first being the survey of literature and the second being a comparison of the achievement of underage and overage pupils.

The present study will attempt to produce verbal conditioning in a carefully controlled experimental situation and to investigate its generalization to a similar activity. The purpose is then two-fold: (1) to obtain a measure of verbal conditioning, and (2) to investigate whether there is a relationship between increased verbal response (verbal conditioning) and a related type of behavior.

This study compared the differences in perceptual development found between (1) normal readers and disabled readers, and (2) Indian children of a reservation cultural background and non-Indian children. Subjects were fifty-three children of both Indian and non-Indian backgrounds ranging from the second to the fourth grades at White Swan Grade School.

A group of fifty-one kindergarten children (23 boys and 28 girls) from Central School in Hoquiam, Washington, were studied for the purpose of evaluating changes occurring during the school year in terms of readiness and academic growth. A series of tests were given in October and November as an inventory of the child's background of skills and readiness in the fall, and the tests were repeated in May to measure any change occurring during the school year.
