Fly This Sim! Basic Aircrew Training Device (Batd) Impact On Student Progression And Retention, Jordan Stephens Oct 2018

Fly This Sim! Basic Aircrew Training Device (Batd) Impact On Student Progression And Retention, Jordan Stephens

Undergraduate Research Symposium - Prescott

The researchers’ goal was to design a project implemented in Fall 2018 which studies the effect of using a Helicopter Basic Aircrew Training Device (BATD) on helicopter flight student progression and retention. Measuring the efficacy of the BATD will allow ERAU to determine the need for purchase of additional BATDs in the future. The design included the methodology and preparation of all of the materials required to undertake the Fall project. This included a student focus group design, student survey design, student progress tracker, BATD utilization tracker, data analysis plan, design and testing of the practical skills to be practiced …

An Examination Of Online Discussions In Higher Education: Leveraging Technology To Increase Learner Engagement And Collaboration, Bettina M. Mrusek Ph.D., Felix De Brito Neto Ph.D. Aug 2018

An Examination Of Online Discussions In Higher Education: Leveraging Technology To Increase Learner Engagement And Collaboration, Bettina M. Mrusek Ph.D., Felix De Brito Neto Ph.D.

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

The online learning environment continues to evolve, seeking to meet the needs of students and researchers alike. The role of discussion boards in this process, however, continues to be an area of concern and research, particularly in aviation and aerospace higher education. While it has been argued that convenience should not replace quality, scholarship shows that many online discussion boards fail to achieve the intended transfer and collaborative construction of knowledge among students, which is of utmost importance for the education of aviation and aerospace professionals. Research also suggests that learner engagement and collaboration are necessary in order to achieve …

An Examination Of The Effect Of Multiple Supervisors On Flight Trainees' Performance, Dongyun Yi Aug 2018

An Examination Of The Effect Of Multiple Supervisors On Flight Trainees' Performance, Dongyun Yi

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

One of the major roles of the flight supervisory control during flight training is that a trainee is guided to stay within acceptable range of flight performance parameters. Under the supervisory control during flight training, however, a trainee may perceive psychological stress. Literature suggests that when pilots are monitored by flight supervisor during flight training, their perception of psychological stress may increase and thus, result in increasing flight performance. This work proposes to examine whether the presence of flight supervisors has an effect on trainee’s performance. This study will further find the number of flight supervisors needed for pilot flight …
