Student motivation and the impacts of the school environment on it have been heavily researched. However, motivation during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been studied in detail due to the recency of events. To understand how the pandemic impacted student motivation, this study applied the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) in understanding how motivation functions through three pieces: autonomy, competence, and relatedness (Deci & Ryan, 1985). Students from lower income brackets have a higher risk of not completing school. School misbehavior, school mobility, grade retention, homework completion, school safety, attendance, academic self-efficacy, academic engagement, and academic expectations were all uniquely related to grade point average and experiencing two of the risk factors was predictive of academic failure. The developed sessions were based on self-determination theory and motivational interviewing skills. The sessions include strategies to help with organization, time-management, and self-advocacy. Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effect of using the gamification strategy on academic achievement and motivation towards learning problem-solving skills in computer and information technology course. A quasi-experimental method was adopted. The study population included tenth-grade female students in Al-Badi’ah schools in Riyadh. The sample consisted of 54 students divided into two equal groups: control group and experimental group. The study tools comprised an achievement test and the motivation scale.
