An Exploratory Resource Allocation Model For Implementing Supported Employment Services, Philip S. Hall, John J. Wheeler

John J. Wheeler

The purpose of this paper is to provide an exploratory resource allocation model for projecting the resource allocations necessary to implement community-based supported employment services to persons with mental retardation. The model relied on a survey of regional adult service and public school providers to obtain an estimate of the costs and time-lines required for job development. A multi-variate linear regression model was used to project the hours that would be required to develop a job site based on the size of the community, the rate of unemployment, and the percent of service jobs. The extant literature was used as …

The Use Of Collaboration Among General Educators And Special Educators As A Means Of Educating Students With Learning Disabilities, Joan Dooley

Theses & Honors Papers

Progress is being made toward the collaboration between general education and special education. Collaboration is a slow process, however, for it to be effective it takes time, careful planning, and programs to better train teachers. Teachers who are involved in the collaborative process report that time and careful planning are of utmost importance when using collaborative teaching methods to educate students with learning disabilities. Eighty-one percent of general educators and 91% of special educators agree that there is not adequate planning time set aside for collaborative teaching strategies and/or lesson planning. General educators and special educators also agree that there …

Effective Techniques/Methods For Conference Presentations: Research Issues, John A. Henschke Edd Jan 1993

Effective Techniques/Methods For Conference Presentations: Research Issues, John A. Henschke Edd

IACE Hall of Fame Repository

Consistent pleas have been made for using participative techniques/methods in adult, continuing, community or extension education conference designs and presentations which assure more stimulating and proactive learning experiences. Despite these pleas, conference audiences, often quite large in number, are typically "treated" to lectures, papers, stilted presentations, etc., and have little opportunity for participation in the proceedings of the conference sessions. Nevertheless, many publications and one definition of "conference" suggest that although the degree of conference participativeness varies, the "better" ones have resource persons who not only imaginatively devise ways to obtain participants input via small group work as well as …

Using Hypermedia To Improve The Dissemination And Accessibility Of Syllabus Documents With Particular Reference To Primary Mathematics, Alistair B. Campbell Jan 1993

Using Hypermedia To Improve The Dissemination And Accessibility Of Syllabus Documents With Particular Reference To Primary Mathematics, Alistair B. Campbell

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The fundamental question that this study set out to investigate was: Can the advantages of hypermedia be extended to curriculum materials that are for the sole use of teachers? To consider this question, three areas needed to be investigated: hypermedia (the medium); teachers (the target) and curriculum documents (the content). Hypermedia has a long history dating back to Bush (1986) who in 1945 imagined his Memex system as building information trails between ideas. However, it was not until the mid 1980s that technology caught up with the theory and hypermedia came of age. The evaluation of hypermedia documents is still …
