Characteristics Of High Quality Teachers: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study, Kelli Barnett

A qualitative investigation was conducted to explore the characteristics of high quality teachers. This study used a phenomenological methodology, enabling the researcher to gather information from a purposeful selection of people directly identified as high quality teachers by their principals. This study employed processes of data collection commonly used in observational analysis and included the use of interviews found in qualitative design.

The researcher was able to extract meaning using the coding process and the constant comparative method. Information was sorted into themes that supported and aligned with the research questions leading to a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. This …

Teachers’ levels of self-efficacy affect not only how they view themselves, but also how they view their students. Some students receive more discipline referrals than others, leading to higher retention and dropout rates for those students with a significant number of discipline referrals. Discipline referrals are subjective. Therefore, each person’s viewpoint attributes to how student behavior is perceived and reported. In addition to a disproportionate number of referrals received by certain students, some teachers are more prone to write a large number of referrals. Choice and Consequences: A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste is a presentation that highlights the functionalities of the human brain. Through our presentation attendees will be able to identify the four main components of the human brain that control our emotions and behaviors. We will provide evaluation-based techniques to strengthen self-awareness. It is our goal that attendees will grasp scientific information of the human brain as well as learn a new skill set to improve social emotional learning and restorative practices in order to deescalate conflicts.

This presentation focuses on the practical skills that are used to facilitate restorative practices.
