Developing Student Social Attitude Self-Assessment Instruments: A Study In Vocational High School, Arief Nurrahman, Sukirno Sukirno, Dwi Setyo Pratiwi, Joni Iskandar, Abdul Rahim, Indah Sari Rahmaini

REID (Research and Evaluation in Education)

This study aims to develop a self-assessment instrument in the affective domain of students' social attitudes, which was modified by the case of the instrument item. The measurement results can be used as a recommendation for the self-assessment of students' social attitudes at school. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The instrument was content validated by five experts using Aiken, and construct validation using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), while the reliability estimation used Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. The results showed that there were seven instrument factors to assess the affective domain of students' social …

Recognizing the importance of student experience and familiarity with modern analytical instruments, the JCSU Chemistry faculty have developed a Shared Instrumentation Resource Laboratory (SIRL) for students and faculty from multiple STEM departments. These instruments were obtained through a series of grants from several sources. Use of the instruments in courses were also implemented. An analysis of Senior Investigative Papers (SIPs) by Biology and Chemistry majors from before and after the implementation of the SIRL show significant (p=0.0014) gains in SIPs based on data collected from JCSU instruments, showing the increased capability for on-campus undergraduate research using instrumentation was utilized.

The purpose of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) is to investigate the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens in a range of countries in the second decade of the 21th century. ICCS 2016 is a continuation of this study, which was initiated in 2009. The development of a framework for ICCS 2016 needed to take account of recent developments and ongoing challenges. The international project team identified areas related to civics and citizenship education, which had either gained more attention in recent years or were regarded as relevant, but which …

Staff at the ICILS international study center (ISC), in close collaboration with staff in the participating countries’ ICILS national centers, developed an international English version of the ICILS assessment and questionnaires. Countries subsequently translated and adapted these materials to their languages of instruction. Throughout this process, the overarching aim was to create high-quality instruments that were internationally comparable yet also appropriate to each country’s national context and education system. The detailed guidelines on translation and adaptation provided to all participating countries are described in the ICILS 2013 Survey Operations Procedures, Unit 3 (ICILS International Study Center, 2012).

This report describes the technical aspects of the National ITC Literacy Sample Assessment and summarises the main activities involved in the data collection, the data collection instruments and the analysis and reporting of the data. Chapter 2 summarises the development of the assessment domain and describes the process of item development and construction of the instruments. Chapter 3 reviews the sample design and describes the sampling process. Chapter 3 also describes the process of weighting to derive population estimates. Chapter 4 summarises the field administration and data management procedures, including quality control and the cleaning and coding of the data. …

These materials were subsequently translated and adapted by countries to their languages of instruction. Throughout this translation and adaptation process, the overarching aim was to create high-quality instruments that were internationally comparable yet also appropriate to each country’s national context and education system. The ICCS instruments were administered in 31 languages, the most common being English and Spanish. Even when the language of testing was English, adaptations were still required to suit the cultural setting and the …

Validity And Problem-Based Learning Research: A Review Of Instruments Used To Assess Intended Learning Outcomes, Brian Robert Belland, Brian F. French, Peggy A. Ertmer

Problem-based learning (PBL) spread from the medical school to other university and K-12 contexts due, in part, to the stated promise that PBL produces the target outcomes of deep content learning, increased problem-solving ability, and increased self-directed learning (Hmelo-Silver, 2004). However, research results have been unclear. This paper examines how the three target outcomes of PBL were measured in 33 empirical studies. Results indicate that few studies included 1) theoretical frameworks for the assessed variables and constructs, 2) rationales for how chosen assessments matched the constructs measured, or 3) other information required for readers to assess the validity of authors’ …
