Enhancing Academic Quality: Viewpoints Of Academics, Sajjad Rehman, Reham Al-Issa, Hessah Alasousi

This study examined faculty views and perceptions of the library and information science (LIS) programs of the six member nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in enhancing academic quality using formal assessment. Two focus groups were held in Kuwait and Muscat. In each focus group, nine participants discussed opportunities, practices, possibilities, and mechanics of assessment and assessment-based systems. It was found that these schools were active in assessment, as CILIP conducted extensive assessment in two programs, resulting in accreditation. Though academic integrity is crucial to one’s individual and professional development, cheating still occurs. New approaches to combatting cheating in the classroom include taking a more universal approach and fostering a culture of integrity where each member of the academic community is aware of the importance of it and is committed to upholding its values. The study presented here examines the relationship between athletic success and academic quality among Division I universities. The analysis begins by revisiting models that have been previously examined by other researchers. The current literature is then extended using a new model incorporating academic rankings. The previously used models incorporate objective measures of academic quality. The new model presented here uses rankings which have a subjective input. It is then examined to see whether the subjective opinions present in the academic rankings are influenced by athletic success.
