You Kind Of Have To Prove It: Gender Microaggressions Within The Lived Experiences Of Women In Engineering, Crystal Rose Diaz-Espinoza

This intrinsic case study explored the lived experiences of women within three engineering majors at a mid-sized institution in the Mid-Atlantic using gender microaggressions (Nadal, 2010; Sue, 2007) as a theoretical lens. Data included individual interviews with 28 participants as well as document review from Web pages and observations from physical spaces within the campus engineering building. Data analysis resulted in seven themes in congruence with Sue’s (2007) taxonomy of gender microaggressions and further established the three levels of gender microaggressions distinguished by Nadal (2010). This evaluation compares evidence from the literature with Australia’s experience in supporting
teacher development in a range of developing countries. It uses case studies to good effect
in explaining choices made, the extent to which expectations were or were not met, and the
lessons for future Australian assistance for teacher development.
The evaluation found mixed results. In cooperation with governments and other donors,
Australia has made positive contributions, such as improving teacher frameworks and
curriculums, and training teachers through a range of interventions. However, there is room
to improve—for example, in enhancing policy, strengthening analysis and negotiating new

There is an underrepresentation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields that influences society’s perception of women’s abilities in math and science. This study researches the implications of robotics on girls’ achievement abilities. Specifically studying the population at the high school of Mount Saint Joseph Academy, it searches for a correlation between members of the Firebirds Robotics Team and higher GPA scores, SAT scores, and percentages of having a major in STEM compared to students not on the team.
