The Exit Survey of Undergraduate Students Completing Degrees in the Spring of 2010 (Exit Survey) is the second annual survey of graduating students at Western Washington University. This survey was designed to illuminate departmental-, college-, and university-level information on student satisfaction, barriers to success, experiences in upper division courses, and post-graduation plans. This survey also includes questions submitted to the Office of Survey Research (OSR) by specific departments and campus offices. Among these are the Mathematics Department, the Math Center, the Communications Department, the College of Business and Economics, University Residences, and Western’s Office of Transportation Services. 2007 • Department Report Executive Summary: Since 1990, Western’s Office of Survey Research (OSR) has surveyed alumni every other year. Alumni who are one to two years past graduation are invited to participate. They are asked to reflect on their experiences at Western, and about their current situation regarding family, education, and employment. OSR uses a mixture of online and telephone survey methodologies, then, when applicable, links survey results with Western’s student records, thus expanding their usefulness to researchers. The 2008 alumni survey was administered to graduates earning their bachelor’s degrees between the summer of 2006 and spring of 2007. …

Though this report will deal mostly with the differences between transfers and native freshmen, their most important similarity should be mentioned first: both cohorts were new to Western; both were expected to confront unfamiliar surroundings and experiences. This basic fact is, from an administrative point of view, also one of extreme importance. The primary reason for the development of the Transitions program and for the continuing use of summer and freshmen orientation programs was to improve the University's efficiency. This study was conducted to determine what, if any, impact the course University 101 may have had on the students who took it. In this study, for each year that University.101 was offered two matched and proportionally sampled groups were created from Registrar files: students who took University 101 and students who did not. Only students with native admit status were included; in other words, only students who had entered Western as first-time, in-coming freshmen. Executive Summary: Information for this report was obtained from the Student Tracking System. Findings are intended to provide insight into various characteristics of the 2100 graduates who matriculated during the 1993-94 academic year. Generally, Western's 1994 graduates were mostly female (57.8% versus 42.2% male); mostly transfers (53.5% versus 42.1% natives, or students who began at Western as first-time fresh); and overwhelmingly current Washington residents (97.5%). Some 1994 graduates chose not to disclose their ethnicity (5.4%). Of the rest, the majority were Euro-Americans (85.4%). Ethnic-minorities made up 8.4% of 1994 graduates, up from 7.0% in 1993. Executive Summary: Information for this report was obtained from a study conducted to determine the relative level of adjustment to college of first-generation and second-generation freshmen at Western Washington University. The study utilized the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ), a 67 item self-report adjustment measure. The SACQ is composed of a full-scale and four subscales: academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, and attachment to the school the student is attending. The SACQ was administered to a randomly selected sample of 250 first and second- generation freshman students. The report presents findings intended to provide insight into various characteristics of the 2198 graduates who matriculated during the 1992-93 academic year (Fall 1992 through Summer 1993), 58.7% of whom were females and 41.3% males. Natives (students who began their education at Western as first-time frosh) made up 44.2% of the 1993 graduates, and transfers 54.3%. Most graduates were between the ages of twenty-one to twenty-four years old (63.0%). No graduate was younger than twenty-one years old; the oldest graduate was seventy-three. The report presents information intended to provide insight into various characteristics of the 2073 graduates who matriculated during the 1991-92 academic year, 58.6% of whom were female and 41.4% male. Natives (students who began their education at WWU as first-time freshmen) made up 45.6% of the 1992 graduates, and transfers 51.6%. Most graduates were between the ages of twenty-one to twenty-four years old (61.9%). There were no graduates younger than twenty-one years old; the oldest graduate was fifty-nine. Data was analyzed using fundamental descriptive statistics. Unlike the OIAT reports on graduates in 1990 and 1991, this report mainly consists of an array of tables. Executive Summary: This report contains an analysis of two different sets of data: one obtained from the Registrar's student information data base, the other from the Office of Assessment and Testing's data base. From the Registrar's student information data base, the report finds that Western graduated 991 students in June of 1990. A majority were women (56%) and transfer students (56.2%); most were Caucasians (83%) and in-state residents (95%). Ethnic¬ minority students made up 5.8% of the graduates and were mostly transfers (70.2%). Three different GPA's were analyzed: high school, transfer, and university.
