A Study To Determine The Relationship Between The Amount Of Innovation Present In An Organization And The Governance Structure Of The Organization, Patricia M. Bauhs

Dissertations

As higher education administrators examine the applicability of management principles to education, the management of innovation comes into focus. This study was concentrated on the relationship between concern for innovation and other variables, namely: "Institutional Esprit," "Meeting Local Needs," "Self-Study and Planning," "Democratic Governance," and organization size. Relationships examined were based on perceptions of two groups--faculty and administrators--compared over a 12-year time period divided into two discrete, 6-year periods.

Ex post facto data from six systems (public universities, private universities, liberal arts colleges, state four-year colleges, community colleges, and private junior colleges) were purchased from the Educational Testing Service. Data …

The Importance Of, And Capability To Perform, Program Evaluation As Perceived By Wisconsin District Media Directors, Roger Leslie Hartz

Dissertations

Working from a theoretical framework developed by merging the CIPP Evaluation Model with the concepts of formative and summative evaluation, this study attempted to discover the perceptions of Wisconsin school district instructional media directors regarding the importance of, and capability to perform, various types of evaluation activity.

Two survey instruments were developed, pilot tested, and administered to Wisconsin school district media directors. One form, administered to half of the population, sought information about the importance of the evaluation activities. The second form, administered to the remainder of the population, sought information about the perceived capability to perform the evaluation activities. …

An Investigation Of A Procedure To Assess Aggregated Item Bias In A Minimum-Competency Test, Laurence E. Rudolph Aug 1982

An Investigation Of A Procedure To Assess Aggregated Item Bias In A Minimum-Competency Test, Laurence E. Rudolph

Dissertations

This study described and evaluated a new procedure to assess item bias in a minimum-competency test (MCT). This procedure was thought to be capable of estimating the degree of bias contained in a given test item. This is in contrast to traditional item bias detection procedures which focus on the presence or absence of bias in an item. Furthermore, the procedure was thought to be capable of estimating item bias in such a way that the aggregate of item bias (AIB) could be obtained.

The chi-square was found to be the most practical of the item bias procedures and the …

A Change In Pass/Fail Criterion On The Mini-Screening Language Test For Adolescents, Denice Lynn Palmer Milholland May 1982

A Change In Pass/Fail Criterion On The Mini-Screening Language Test For Adolescents, Denice Lynn Palmer Milholland

Dissertations and Theses

This study was designed to determine whether varying criterion for pass/fail on the Mini-Screening Language Test for Adolescents (Mini-STAL) would increase accuracy of predicting outcome of the Screening Test of Adolescent Language (STAL). The Mini-STAL was developed by Prather et al. (1981) to identify rapidly those students between grades six through twelve who are in need of language intervention. Using Prather's established criterion (one or more errors equal failure), the Phoenix school district (Prather, 1981) found too many of their school population (20 percent) were failing the Mini- STAL. Thus, they established an experimental criterion (two or more errors equal …

A Study Of The Establishment And Operation Of An Adult Day Care Center In Southside Virginia, Ronald Vernon Dunn Apr 1982

A Study Of The Establishment And Operation Of An Adult Day Care Center In Southside Virginia, Ronald Vernon Dunn

Theses & Honors Papers

Adult Day Cares are a viable option for many Americans with elderly parents. Whether both partner work full-time and are unable to care for their parents, or their parents need the socialization that a group setting would provide, many view these centers as a practical option for them. An Adult Day Care is the mediator between the strict supervision that a hospital setting would provide and the lack of supervision while the adult is at their home. This study examines the history of Adult Day Care Centers, the Adult Day Care options in Southside Virginia, and develops a thorough plan …

Property Tax Ellort In Eastern Kentucky Counties: Implications Lor Financing Public Services, Douglas Dotterweich Mar 1982

Property Tax Ellort In Eastern Kentucky Counties: Implications Lor Financing Public Services, Douglas Dotterweich

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

The eastern portion of Kentucky has long had insufficient tax revenues available to provide quality public services for local residents. Frequently, the response by legislators and others within the region has been to request additional resources from the state and federal levels of government for service provision. Particularly in present times of limited resources, the higher units of government would do well to ask the question: "Is this region truly poor, or are its residents simply unwilling to tax themselves at the same level as the rest of the state?" The purpose of this report is to provide a method …
