Improving Assessments And Evaluations Of Pilots In Collegiate Aviation Programs, Peter Matthew Dittmer Ed.D.
Improving Assessments And Evaluations Of Pilots In Collegiate Aviation Programs, Peter Matthew Dittmer Ed.D.
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
The purpose of the proposed study is to improve assessments and evaluation techniques of student pilots in collegiate aviation programs. Proper evaluation and assessment of student pilot performance in collegiate aviation programs is important to the success and credibility of the training program. Students in pilot training programs are scrutinized unlike other students in other academic programs. There exists well-defined program evaluation cycles, specific skills and knowledge to be tested, objective criteria on which to judge performance, tight restrictions on evaluator qualifications, and a well-defined curriculum for creating an evaluation context.
This researcher would look at three reasons student pilots …

What Our Students Want In And From Their Library, Veronica Wells, Robin Imhof, Debbie Johnston
Pacific's Annual Assessment Conference
University of the Pacific’s Stockton Campus Library is currently in the process of a multi-phase renovation that will offer 21st century design and functionality. Our team conducted several assessment methods to understand more fully how our students use –or choose not to use—study spaces and various pieces of furniture in the Stockton library. The results of this project will help answer the questions: “What do our students want or need in library learning spaces – both academic and social?” and “How might we create learning spaces in the library that will enable a variety of student use preferences?” We have …

- : If it is state law that students must attend school or be home schooled until they are a certain age, then must the state protect them while at public schools? The answer seems self-evident. Indeed, the United States Constitution’s 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection under the laws to its citizens. But do school practices unintentionally violate this protection?
Are Students Competent? Methods Of Assessing Bachelor Of Social Work Student Competence, Amber L. Bailey-Residori
Are Students Competent? Methods Of Assessing Bachelor Of Social Work Student Competence, Amber L. Bailey-Residori
Scholar Week 2016 - present
Author Abstract:
Higher educational institutions must demonstrate that their Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students are competent prior to graduation. There are conflicting studies regarding the reliability of field instructor, faculty, and students’ self-assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine the consistency of how field instructors, faculty, and students assessed social work students' competence across three academic years. This quantitative research study examined historical data from one Midwestern University where students, faculty, and field instructors rated students’ competence in the last semester of their senior year using the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) 13 core competencies (2.1.1-2.1.10d). …

Assessment In Interactive Learning Environments, Michael Timms, Jason Lodge
Assessment In Interactive Learning Environments, Michael Timms, Jason Lodge
2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences
There is an increasing interest in using digital technologies to create interactive learning environments (ILEs) that both teach and assess student skills that are hard or impossible to assess using ‘static’ items such as traditional, multiple-choice questions. These interactive learning environments try to do two things simultaneously: firstly, to monitor the learning of the student in real time, providing feedback to help the student progress through the learning task; and secondly, to use the information gathered during the learning to make judgements about where the student is in learning of the topic. Essentially, ILEs draw upon the same source of …
Measuring What Matters: Challenges And Opportunities In Assessing Science Proficiency, James W. Pellegrino
Measuring What Matters: Challenges And Opportunities In Assessing Science Proficiency, James W. Pellegrino
2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences
A key challenge in shaping science learning for the future will be to develop new measures of learning that take into account what it means to be proficient in science (Pellegrino, 2013). The emergent view on proficiency, grounded in learning sciences research, emphasises using and applying knowledge in the context of disciplinary practice. Referred to as knowledge-in-use, this perspective on science proficiency is a centrepiece of the United States’ National Research Council’s (NRC) Framework for K–12 Science Education (NRC, 2012), embodied in the new US national standards (NGSS Lead States, 2013) and emphasised in the recently released NRC report on …

Learning Assessments: Designing The Future, Geoff N. Masters
2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences
Processes for assessing student learning are undergoing fundamental transformation. This presentation will consider three developments which can be expected to shape how student learning is assessed in the future. First is fundamental change in how assessment is conceptualised and approached, with a focus on monitoring learning. Second is growing interest in the assessment of a broader range of skills and attributes than those addressed in most current assessment efforts. Third is advances in technology which are opening the door to new ways of gathering information about student learning, including through records of real-time interactions in online learning environments. In ACER’s Centre …
Rubrics For Easily And Accurately Assessing Speaking And Listening Proficiency From Novice Through Distinguished, Catherine T. Johnson
Rubrics For Easily And Accurately Assessing Speaking And Listening Proficiency From Novice Through Distinguished, Catherine T. Johnson
South East Coastal Conference on Languages & Literatures (SECCLL)
Accurately assessing student performance helps instructors develop more effective classroom materials to increase proficiency in the target language. In order to facilitate this process in my classroom, I have developed rubrics for Speaking and Listening that are based on ACTFL guidelines, and that can be easily modified to suit the specific needs of any language at all levels from Novice through Distinguished. Thus, these rubrics can be very useful not only for the individual instructor, but also for language departments that wish to use a common rubric for assessing student performance.
At the end of the session, participants will be …
