The Relationship Of Socioeconomic Status, Occupational Aspiration, And Ethnicity To The Anomia Of High School Freshmen And Sophomores, Alejandro Perez

This study analyzed the relationship of several variables assumed to be significant in producing anomia, a variant of alienation. The variables analyzed were socioeconomic status, occupational aspiration, and ethnicity.

Freshmen and sophomore high school students were identified by ethnic group (Mexican-American and Anglo-American), socioeconomic status (high, middle, and low), and occupational aspiration (high, middle, and low). In order to investigate a commonly presumed characteristic of ethnicity, students were also classified as to the degree of acceptance of the open­ class ideology (high, middle, and low).

The purpose of this study was to develop a model for introducing change in large social systems. The model was based on (1) a review of existing models, and (2) the analysis of a participant-observer study of an attempt at intraducing large system change. Organization Development was the focal change modality examined. It was intended that the model thus developed would be of utility to the practicing change agent in whatever field--education, social work, community development, government, unions, business, or industry.

An internship in the Business Affairs Office was chosen to enrich the intern's conceptual, human, and technical skills pertaining to school business and finance management. The intern actively participated in the daily activities and responsibilities of each of the nine departments which compose the Business Affairs Office. Johnson Edward's life as a student - one of the few black children at the Ethical Culture Schools for many years, her unsuccessful search for a student-teaching position in New York City's private schools, and her decision at the age of 20 to found a private school where she could give black children an alternative to the kind of public education they were being offered.

The document presents a review of relevant literature providing research findings relevant to problems concerning dropouts. Data for the document was obtained by sending a questionnaire to selected drop out students at Odessa High School. The results of the survey were organized into statistical data and reported in the document in tables and diagrams. The results of the survey imply a significant number of dropouts have a negative attitude about the treatment they received from school personnel, but school is generally regarded as a needed and good experience. The purpose of the study was to compare the perceptions of junior high school principals and middle school principals concerning the aspects affecting conversion of junior high schools to middle schools.

A questionnaire was used to collect responses from junior high school and middle school principals. The questionnaire, designed to elicit data, was mailed to twenty-two junior high school and middle school principals employed in the Albuquerque Public Schools system. The development and writing of a program of school-community relations for the Jenison Public Schools led to a review and search of Board of Education policies, administrative memoranda, books and pamphlets, writing of authorities in the field, and attendance at a one-week seminar in Denver, Colorado sponsored by NSPRA. After a review of these materials, participation in the seminar, and consultation from professional educators and authorities in the school public relations field, a program of school-community relations for the Jenison Public Schools was developed.
