The objective of this report was to relate the experiences and outcomes of a field experience internship in public school administration.

Specifically, the report focused on a comparison and contrast of the roles, responsibilities, and expectation of instructional leadership as reflected in the separate positions of a principal, a curriculum director, and a consolidation of both positions.

This report summarizes a 15-week internship with Senior Services, Incorporated, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, served during the Spring and Summer terms, 1983.

The purpose of the internship was to acquaint the intern with the leadership performance, duties, responsibilities, and actions of the executive director and field supervisor in increasing and maintaining a low income minority senior citizen's nutritional outreach service. The objectives of increasing the number of low income minority senior citizen participants and prepared nutritional sites were the major emphasis of this internship. In addition, the intern was involved with proposal writing and the hiring of two outreach workers.

The experience focused on gaining an understanding of the State Board of Education and Adult Extended Learning Services, a unit of the State Department of Education. The intern was also given the task of rewriting and updating one of the Department of Education handbooks: "Administrative Guide for Adult High School."

The school system serves students K-12 in 15 individual school districts. It serves as a link between local districts and the State Department of Education, furnishing services that single districts find difficult or impossible to perform. This study was an attempt to determine how the schools in three Southwestern Michigan counties implemented the decision of the July 17, 1970 Michigan State Supreme Court ruling which required all school districts to provide students with all necessary school supplies. It was evident from the survey conducted that the schools are at different levels of compliance and that the only commonality is that all of them furnish textbooks and paper. The purpose of the study was to investigate the degree of stress principals perceive in the work environment. Specifically this study compared the actual perceived stress experienced on the job with what principals deem to be a reasonable amount of stress. The study was predicated on the research findings that indicate that the amount of stress is relative to a given individual as opposed to being an absolute quality.

In 1947, a large number of very small school districts surrounded Oakland, Illinois each with its own school board. In 1948, Oakland and all or parts of these 16 districts were consolidated by the vote of the people into a single school district as permitted by State Law (1948) thus forming Oakland Community School District No. 5.

Three attendance centers, the Oakland Elementary School; the Hindsboro Elementary School; and Oakland High School were operated from 1959 until 1968.

A new Elementary attendance center was completed in 1968, and the old attendance centers in Oakland and Hindsboro were closed.

The development of a faculty handbook for the Argenta-Oreana School District grades K-8 was the subject of this field study. A faculty handbook had been issued previously, but it was outdated, lacking in detail, and had not been distributed for almost ten years. The high school had a recently revised faculty handbook, but the distinct differences between the high school and the lower grades would not permit the use of the same handbook by all teachers in the district.

A preliminary study of Cooperative Purchasing, in Southern Illinois school districts, was conducted using the Delphi technique. A group of school personnel with Cooperative Purchasing experience was secured from the prescribed geographical area. These people, the experts, were asked to respond to a three round Delphi survey. The experts were to formulate their opinion from their own experiences and by reviewing the composite results of the previous Delphi round.

The experts reached a consensus of opinion on the Positive Delphi question. Ninety-eight percent of those surveyed stated that "Lower Prices" was the primary concern of a purchasing cooperative. The Negative …
