This handbook and website project gives a thorough explanation of dyslexia, the history of dyslexia, and the latest resources available for parents, teachers, and related professionals who support students with dyslexia. The handbook and webpage will provide parents, teachers, and related professionals information which they may access in order to support students with dyslexia throughout their academic career. These resources will offer much-needed support for parents, teachers, and related professionals in learning how to properly identify the characteristics which are most often associated with dyslexia. The purpose of this project was to expand upon a current workshop that taught students about positive self-esteem and how to self-advocate for themselves, by creating a handbook of information about dyslexia and some strategies to pre-expose them to the workshop content. The handbook includes an appendix with all required material to complete the workshop. The project also contains, a review of current literature and research related to dyslexia including the definition, diagnosis, testing, remediation, and self-esteem in regards to dyslexia was conducted.

The purpose of this study was twofold: to gain a better understanding of the nature of the specific reading disability of dyslexia and to find out how a classroom teacher could best meet the needs of the dyslexic child. After reviewing and analyzing the literature dealing with this problem of reading disabilities, the writer attempted to present the significant problems confronting those planning an educational program for the child handicapped with dyslexia. The problems were: (1) early identification of the specific reading disability, (2) comprehension of the nature and causes of dyslexia, and (3) determining the special teaching methods necessary …
