Ouachita's Division Of Music Presents Percussion Ensemble In Concert April 11, Abigail Gaddis, Ouachita News Bureau

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music presents the Percussion Ensemble in concert Monday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The Percussion Ensemble will be joined by a variety of musicians featuring Ouachita students, faculty and alumni during the concert, which is free and open to the public.

“Each piece on the program is so unique,” said conductor Dr. Ryan Lewis, associate professor of music at Ouachita. “I am thrilled that the students are having the opportunity to collaborate with musicians in so many areas.”

Ouachita Baptist University will host Tiger Steel, the university’s steel drum ensemble, in concert in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Monday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

“Steel band music makes people smile, which is one of the most powerful reasons to perform music,” said Dr. Ryan Lewis, OBU associate professor of music and director of the ensemble.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host its 11th annual W. Francis and Mary McBeth Ouachita Wind and Percussion Concerto Competition on Friday, Dec. 9. The event is sponsored by Mrs. Mary McBeth in honor of her husband, W. Francis McBeth, who was Arkansas’ composer laureate and a long-time Ouachita faculty member.
