Learning From Experience: My Time With Swim And Read, Aleksandra Tosic

SASAH 4th Year Capstone and Other Projects: Publications

My experiences at SWIM and READ have led me through many challenges and earned me many successes and have helped me to gain a variety of hard skills and soft skills while letting me improve upon some that I already had. Here, I got the opportunities to work on a book project called “20 Stories of Hope” and to spend a year teaching a young child literacy skills, both of which have given me valuable chances to both find and pursue new passions and to develop my career pathway towards teaching.

A Guide For Early Career Success In Academic Research, Obinna O. Obilo, William B. Locander, David A. Locander

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Balancing the research, teaching, and service facets is important to achieving success in academia. Doctoral programs should prepare their students to successfully navigate and balance all three of these facets. We focus on the research facet in this study and draw from the experience of a panel of accomplished researchers within the discipline, to compile a set of guidelines for doctoral students and new faculty. Analyzing the qualitative results from the panel interviews, we find that to ensure success within the research facet, one must effectively manage three emergent focal distinctions; a relationship with: oneself, others, and with the work.

And in the emerging art-science field I doubt that the usual approach to curriculum development will work.

Ethics In Publishing, Susan R. Madsen

The primary purpose of this innovative session is to provide HRD faculty, administrators, and graduate students the forum to listen to panelists and then discuss current issues and challenges related to the ethical decision-making and behavior of researchers and scholars as it relates to publishing. It will provide attendees the opportunity to challenge behaviors and practices commonly seen and held within this arena. I (Susan R. Madsen) just faciliated a very successful session at the Academy of Management in Anaheim (August, 2008) on this topic and realized that we need the same conversation (different panelists) in the AHRD. Ethics In Publishing: Professional Development Workshop, Susan R. Madsen, James Davis

Susan R. Madsen

This PDW is all about “The Questions We Ask?” In fact, it is also about “The Questions We Should Ask!” With the fairly recent and highly publicized breaches of ethics among members of the business community, there is a need to re-examine specific strategies employed in all kinds of organizations. Many business faculty are comfortable teaching ethics in the classroom, but are we (as scholars and educators) appropriately challenging our own ethical practices? Ethics in publishing is one of the areas that many disciplines have recently been addressing. This workshop will provide faculty, administrators, and doctoral students the forum to …
