The SMU-X Initiative is a paradigm shit which focuses on learning as opposed to teaching as well as a mind-set shift to get the university to collaborate both internally and with our external stakeholders more. We strive to do this by introducing innovation curriculum based on an experiential approach that is interdisciplinary and hands-on. It gets the SMU community to collaborate and step out of their silos by encouraging group effort in solving complex issues.

In this paper, we describe and review several examples of web technology-enabled teaching and learning approaches at undergraduate level in an Asian institution of higher learning. We begin by reporting on experiences made in the context of an iPad-enabled mobile learning project conducted during a Knowl- edge Management course (excursion) in support of the university’s technology-enabled learning vision. This is followed by reflections on the deployment of a collaborative social learning platform website (Edmodo), wiki- and web page-creation tools (Google Site), animated videos, etc. in elective courses on leadership and human capital management. This paper features a competency-enhancing social networking application which provides a solution for the dilemma of non-participating (non-engaged) students in class: ‘pedagogical tweeting’. Twitter’s micro-blogging service enables both instructors and students to send and read messages (tweets) of up to 140 characters, incl. links to blogs, web pages, photos, videos, etc. As Twitter can be accessed from a website, via applications on PC/Mac, iPhone, Android phones, etc., it represents an effective tool to engage students, e.g. by taking up questions during in-class and out-of-class discussions or by providing advice on assignments etc. Students in turn can generate their own learning …

Seow Poh Sun, Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) and Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum) and senior lecturer Wong Suay Peng of the School of Accountancy at Singapore Management University recently were honoured with the 2015 Innovation in Accounting Education Award from the American Accounting Association (AAA). The award, sponsored by the Ernst & Young Foundation, was given to Prof Seow and Ms Wong in recognition of their outstanding achievement in innovative teaching in the use of a mobile game app. Their work "Accounting Challenge: Mobile-Gaming App for Learning Accounting" is the first mobile-gaming app developed for teaching financial accounting. It is one of the first and biggest wins ever by a Singaporean educational institution in this worldwide case writing competition. Born in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia in 1957, Peggy grew up in St. Martin of Tours parish attending their grade school before going to Little Flower High School. After graduation in 1975, Peggy entered La Salle University an undergraduate where she received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Peggy received a master’s degree from Villanova in 1984. The Singapore Management University (SMU) has announced today that SMU Professor of Accounting Cheng Qiang has been selected as the next dean of the SMU School of Accountancy (SoA). American universities have significantly increased their marketing expenditures over the last decade. The high cost of education, reductions in government funding, and precipitous declines in the traditional college-aged population (18-21 year olds) are some of the key factors forcing universities to be more aggressive with the promotional techniques they use to attract prospective students. In this competitive marketplace, schools promote the attributes they believe will be most compelling to high schoolers and their parents, including academics, sports, campus life, and careers. The overarching aim of this twelve-month project, funded by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was to develop industry understanding of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and assess the support needed by employers to better engage in WIL. Data gathered in a survey of Western Australian employers and industry focus groups prompted the establishment of a WIL Advisory Service (WAS). The service was founded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (CCIWA) to broker relationships between employers and universities, and provide support to improve WIL outcomes.
