This project is an attempt to provide the inexperienced tutor of English to refugees with some commonly used techniques. Most of the techniques presented are not difficult to learn to use effectively. Each technique is presented with its rationale, procedure for use and an example. A discussion of techniques and their uses, objectives, and on teaching and learning precedes the presentation of the techniques.

My project uses an imaginary voyage in a classroom as an introduction to second language culture. It consists of a special collection of teaching techniques for post-elementary language teachers of an advanced second language course. The purpose of this project is to help students get a glimpse of a culture in a situational, functional, and performing way. The students plan an imaginary trip to the second language culture of the country where the second language is spoken.

This project delineates an approach to ESOL that combines the teaching and learning of English with the facilitation of growth in self and cultural awareness - a greater knowledge of one's self and one's cultural molding. This approach involves the examination by students of items from American media, to understand what such items say, what they imply about American culture and for students' own culture (s), and what these implications mean for students themselves.
