Traditional social studies curriculum in the K-12 system focuses on United States history through a Eurocentric lens. The issue with focusing on a black-and-white version of history impacts people of color from ethnic backgrounds that are not equally represented in the curriculum. The research conducted for this project specifically focuses on the impact of this subject matter on individuals in a predominantly Latino community. Through surveys and interviews, the researcher presents feedback on the experiences of these individuals and provides possible solutions on how schools can improve social studies curriculum at the high school level to be more culturally relevant …

Under orders from Don Jose de Gálvez, between 1768 and 1770, Miguel Constanzó explored the coastline of the California (Baja) Peninsula and Alta California with a two-fold purpose: 1) to correct existing navigational charts, and 2) to investigate and develop plans for the ports of San Diego and Monterey. This map was created as a part of a five-year maritime scientific exploration made by Alessandro Malaspina and José de Bustamante y Guerra in Spanish corvettes Atrevida and Descubierta. The multifaceted journey included a search for the Northwest Passage. The map depicts the Central California coastline from Ano Nuevo State Marine Conservation Area south to Point Lobos. Malaspina arrived in Monterey Bay on September 11, 1791 where he and the scientists who accompanied him recorded their observations and made nautical sounding along the coast.

The chart was drawn by Miguel Constanzó, royal engineer for the Kingdom of New Spain, who accompanied the 1769 expedition led by Captain Gaspar de Portola to establish a settlement at Monterey Bay previously discovered by Sebastián Vizcaino in 1603. The chart depicts the Pacific Ocean, the entire eastern and western coast of the California peninsula, the Sea of Cortez, and the coasts of North America, from the isthmus that connects this peninsula with the mainland to the River of the Kings (R de los Reyes), and from the Colorado River to the Cape of Corrientes.

This 2009 report studies the Ohlone/Costanoan people who are the descendants of speakers of six related Costanoan languages that were spoken in west central California, from San Francisco Bay to Monterey Bay, when Spanish missionaries and settlers arrived in the 1770s. The San Francisco Peninsula lands of the Golden Gate Recreation Area is in one of the six language territories, San Francisco Bay Costanoan. A study conducted for Monterey County under County Professional Agreement 14-714, in response to Referral No. 2014.01. Prepared by Brown and Caldwell under the oversight of Monterey County Water Resources Agency, this report addresses the effects of prolonged drought by considering likely changes in groundwater head elevations, groundwater storage, and seawater intrusion. Some steps are offered that might help alleviate the consequences of further depleting groundwater storage.
