Albert Strem was an Austro-Hungarian immigrant who came to the United States in the late 1920's. After immigrating to the United States he learned English at night school while working as a waiter in various New York restaurants. During World War II he was drafted and was assigned to class T-159, H company 1210th S. T. U. at Fort Ontario to learn to read and write English. After the war he resumed working in the restaurant industry and began volunteering with the New York Police Auxiliary when it was established in the 1950's.
