This report summarizes the activities and accomplishments of the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) during the 2018-2019 academic year. The COEHD’s tripartite mission remains at the core of its many efforts and activities. It continues to be Maine’s leader in PK-20 Educator Preparation, and more teachers and school administrators in the state have undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maine than from any other institution in the State. The COEHD also continues to work closely with the Maine Department of Education and the Education and Cultural Affairs Legislative Subcommittee, as well as with local school districts …

Clement and Linda McGillicuddy’s vision to enhance undergraduate humanities experience at UMaine has set us apart from most other institutions in the country. Because of their support, our undergraduate fellows have world-class research experiences in the humanities, from pursuing the history of mathematical literacy through a particular 18th century geometry text, to exploring media representations of social justice efforts by marginalized American communities. With six fellows in spring 2020, we are on track to support seven in the fall and to achieve our full complement of eight McGillicuddy Undergraduate Fellows in spring 2021.

(Pendharkar, 2020 - Appendix A) We have also created online Early College courses for high school students who may be interested in education majors. Our online graduate programs were rated this year as one of the best in the country according …

The UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation is pleased to announce that in 2019 our Executive Committee finalized the new Strategic Plan to expand our scholarship recipient student body to 150 students! We have already grown from 80 students in 2017 to over 100 students in 2019, and we still don’t have enough available students to fill the industry’s entry-level engineering needs. Our mission to bring together students, the University, the Pulp and Paper Industry and our Donors becomes even more critical as the demand for engineers grows across the board. We are engaging with a marketing firm to help us …

The Center for Research on Sustainable Forests (CRSF) and Cooperative Forestry Research Unit (CFRU) continued to move forward on multiple fronts with a particularly productive and rewarding FY18-19. This included leadership on several key new initiatives such as the Forest Climate Change Initiative (FCCI), Intelligent GeoSolutions (IGS), and a funded National Science Foundation (NSF) Track 2 EPSCoR grant (INSPIRES). This is in addition to ongoing leadership and support for important CRSF programs such as NSF’s Center for Advanced Forestry Systems (CAFS), the Northeastern Research Cooperative (NSRC), and FOR/Maine. In short, CRSF is on a bold upward trajectory that highlights its …
