One of the major premises of education is that programs must be constantly exposed to evaluation. One of the means implementing such evaluation is the use of a follow-up study. By using the results of such a study, the institution can keep its program in step with the best educational theory and practice.

It is the purpose of' this investigation to study critically the writings of Pedro deLemos in the field of art education from 1919 to 1950 inclusive; to compare his philosophy with that of other art educators of the same period.

To be more specific, the statement of this investigation is to study the following:

  1. To determine the philosophy upon which Pedro deLemos built his theories and practices of art education.
  2. To determine to what extent his philosophy of art education agreed or differed with the philosophies of other art educators.

The present material that would be acceptable in the high school physical education class required a study of the various types of dances from Hawaii. There appeared to be two main classifications of dance forms: the modern and ancient. In the modern form, hip, torso, simple and intricate step patterns, as well as hand and arm motions, are used to convey the meaning and rhythm of the music . This style is not readily adaptable to the high school situation, nor does it lend itself to transmission by written form. The ancient danses, on the other hand, relied upon the …
