This exploratory study provides a foundation to measure students’ level of learning based on education theory for digital technology and meaningful technology theory for digital literacy. There has yet to exist an effective assessment tool that can evaluate students’ digital literacy. To provide initial insight into the digital technology integrated course development, Wacom pen-tablet and Autodesk Sketchbook were utilized to create an interior design curriculum for undergraduate college students. This arts-based research project uses qualitative and autoethnographic methods to explore the concept of artist-teacher. The author/artist journaled for three months about her artmaking process while undertaking five discussions about her work with peer advisors, both of whom were practicing artists. The author discovered that that key themes that ran through her artmaking process included the use of found objects (chance and organization), intuition, metaphor, politics and spirituality, other artists’ influence, reflective practice, engagement with nature, and the effort to understand and address her audience. The purpose of this case study was to investigate the inclusion of spirituality in a five-week art unit. Spirituality was defined as the interconnectedness with nature and all living things, with human beings and with a higher power. This study was conducted within two Central Illinois public schools, working specifically with third and fourth grade students. Eleven students participated in the study by completing the unit, sharing their sketches/artwork, and participating in an audio-recorded interview conducted by the teacher/researcher. Daily teacher observations/reflections were also used as data.

This study attempts to discover how social media can be a tool for art educators. The researcher, an elementary art educator, created a Facebook page to share his curriculum and document his teaching experience. For a two month period he recorded the posts, the and responses and documented the process in a reflective journal to determine how interaction with social media would impact his teaching. He simultaneously conducted an online survey of art educators to ask how they used social media to inform their teaching.

This was a study of how two children showed creativity in their own home environment. This study demonstrated four aspects of creativity, including problem solving, imagination, artistic expression, and play. Both children were very creative when making artwork in their own home. The more the children were engaged in the artwork, the more involved they were in the act of creativity. The girl demonstrated more problem solving skills, whereas the boy, due to his younger age, showed more imagination and play. This research study used a pretest and posttest, classroom discussion, student artwork and artist statements, and interview responses to determine whether integrating postmodern theory and visual culture into the art curriculum encouraged students to think critically. Study participants included eight students at a public junior high school in southwest suburb of Chicago, IL. Overall, students' posttest responses were slightly more thorough and better written. In general, participants agreed that learning about contemporary artists inspired them and helped give them ideas.
