This collection consists of collection of documents and reports on the planning and construction of the Kansas Technology Center; slides of university trips and family; and miscellaneous.

Frank Victor Sullivan was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1931. He became fascinated with airplanes and flying growing up in Wichita, and was a member of the Boy Scouts. He would go on to earn a private pilot’s license. He received his bachelor’s degree from Friends University (Wichita). The Hotel Stilwell Hotel collection contains documents regarding the original establishment of the hotel, the history of the building, blueprints, architectural plans, proposals, financial records, legal matters, press releases, newspaper clippings, magazines and other publications, board and agenda notes from meetings of the Hotel Stilwell Board, historical registry papers, loans, grants, correspondence, and information from similar corporations including Camptown and the Little Balkans Foundation.

Finding Aids

A collection of approximately 190 black and white, tinted, and color postcards of places and buildings in Pittsburg, Kansas. Examples of the postcards include views of Broadway, Pittsburg State University, parks, and public buildings. The postcards donated were published by Souvenir Post Card Co., New York Souvenir Post Card Co., Acmegraph Co., and S. H. Kress and Co. A list of the postcards is included in the collection. RISD press was a student newspaper published weekly in the early 1970s, a self-described attempt at consolidating all the information outlets of the school, including the previous student newspaper, Montage. The issue of September 27, 1974 had an article about the RISD Building Study report that took place in the summer. Also the RISD student board meeting for the activities budget outline was in this issue. Information about student health services, ads, classifieds, events listed for RISD students were mentioned.

The March 15, 1974 issue had an article about sports at RISD, a letter to the RISD building committee from RISD architecture students, and an article about a quilt lecture with Jonathan Holstein. There also was an article about the Women in Wintersession class in New York City. Poems, comics, ads, classifieds, and events for RISD students were also included.

There also was an article about the RISD Instruction Committee. Recipes, art exhibitions, photos, and events for RISD students were also listed.

John Ruskin Howe

John Ruskin Howe (1895-1980) was born to David and Laura Howe in North Manchester, Indiana. In the 1910s, he enlisted for World War I in Nov 1918 and was honorably discharged in July 1919 at the rank of Sergeant. He was a graduate of Otterbein University in 1925, and then from Yale in both 1924 and 1927. He married Mary Elizabeth Brewbaker, and in 1939 became the fourteenth President of Otterbein University until 1945. After Otterbein, he spent several years travelling and ministering in various locations. He had two sons, Charles and John.
