This synthesis paper details my journey as an action researcher to evaluate the role of metacognition in acquiring, maintaining, and extending performance in the online video game Team Fight Tactics (TFT). Metacognitive skills contribute towards optimizing practice and strategic adaptability, which are fundamentals for improving performance in TFT. As a TFT coach, I created a theoretical model for video game coaching that focuses on developing metacognitive skills as a mean to improve TFT performance.
