Employee Judgments Of And Behaviors Towards Corporate Social Responsibility: A Multi-Study Investigation Of Direct, Cascading, And Moderating Effects, Pavlos A. Vlachos, Nick Panagopoulos, Adam Rapp

Pavlos A Vlachos

Do employee judgments of their organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs relate to CSR-specific performance and in-role job performance? Can middle managers influence the formation of such judgments and what factors might moderate such cascading influences? To answer these yet unaddressed questions, we conduct three studies. Study 1 takes an organizational justice perspective and tests our baseline model. Results show that employees’ CSR judgments trigger their affective commitment and performance on extra-role CSR-specific behaviors; however, extra-role CSR-specific performance is unrelated to in-role job performance. Study 2 replicates Study 1’s findings while, in addition, applies a social information processing approach and …

Are social marketers really ethical? This essay extends Brenkert’s (2001, 2002) exploration of some of the ethical issues that confront, or perhaps ought to confront social marketers. It contributes to social marketing by adding to the list of ‘mythunderstandings’ offered by Donovan (2011) as follows: social marketing is not inherently and ethically good (even though “social good” is the objective). The implication for social marketing is that the notion of “doing good” needs to be subject to reasonable doubt and critical thinking rather than supported by untrammelled belief.

Electronic Perceived Service Quality: Results From A Cross-National Study In The Context Of Mobile Internet Services, Pavlos A. Vlachos, George Giaglis, Inseong Lee, Adam Vrechopoulos

Pavlos A Vlachos

Work on how consumers evaluate electronic service quality is both topical and important due to the well-accepted criticality of electronic channels in selling products and services. However, most of the relevant research on electronic research quality is preoccupied with the website Internet context and most of the studies are singlecountry studies, inhibiting conclusions of generalizibility. Theoretically rooted in the Nordic Model of perceived service quality, this exploratory study uses an e-service quality scale to measure mobile Internet service quality in different national settings. Consistent with the available e-service quality literature, results indicate that e-service quality is a second-order factor, with …

Too Much Of A Good Thing: Curvilinear Effects Of Service Evaluation Constructs And The Mediating Role Of Trust, Pavlos A. Vlachos, Katerina Pramatari, Adam Vrechopoulos

Pavlos A Vlachos

PURPOSE OF THIS PAPER. The satisfaction-trust paradigm has been recently criticized regarding its ability to deliver positive consumer behavioral outcomes. This study argues that -amongst others- a reason for this unpleasant situation may be the failure of service managers to account for non-linearities in the satisfaction-trust paradigm. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH. The setting for this study has been the super-market retail channel. A total of 942 respondents were “intercepted” in supermarket stores, employing a face-to-face personal interviewing method. For the detection of curvilinear effects the study employed the two-step single indicant method of Ping (1998). FINDINGS. We posit consumer trust as an important …

Corporate Social Responsibility Orientation And Organisational Performance Within The Retailing Sector, Andrew J. Zur, Jody Evans, Kerrie Bridson Jan 2009

Corporate Social Responsibility Orientation And Organisational Performance Within The Retailing Sector, Andrew J. Zur, Jody Evans, Kerrie Bridson

AZ

It is becoming increasingly apparent that organisations in the oversaturated retailing sector are looking for new ways to gain a positional advantage over competitors. Using the resource-based view, this paper proposes that investment in and implementation of socially responsible and sustainable practices and strategies is, in fact, a capability of the firm. Further, we suggest that an organisation is able to better achieve a positional advantage and subsequent strong organisational performance through adoption of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) orientation. We also posit that organisational culture, corporate strategy and target stakeholders influence the development of a strong CSR orientation.

Niagara Falls, New York was home to the 13th Annual Vincentian International Conference Promoting Business Ethics sponsored by DePaul University (Chicago, IL), Niagara University (Niagara, NY), and St. John’s University (New York, NY), the three American universities sponsored by the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians). Conferences in the past had specific themes and corresponding paper presentations focused on a particular topic. This one intentionally did not have a central organizing subject matter to allow for greater diversity. Leaders from the academic and corporate sectors, representing 30 countries, submitted excellent papers on a broad range of ethical issues. This rich …

Csr Orientation And Organisational Performance In The Australian Retail Industry, Andrew J. Zur Jan 2008

Csr Orientation And Organisational Performance In The Australian Retail Industry, Andrew J. Zur

AZ

This study aims to contribute to current business ethics literature by conceptualising the relationship between organisational culture, corporate strategy, and target stakeholders and the formation of a CSR orientation. The study will further explore whether corporate social responsibility policies and practices will result in an overall improved positional advantage for the firm and, as a consequence, positively enhance organisational performance. These relationships will be examined within the context of the retail industry in Australia, focusing on the food, clothing and textiles, and footwear sectors.
