An Analysis Of The Environmental Content Of Las Vegas Strip Hotels, Andrew M. Levey
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This study examines the environmental content of hotel properties websites. The central question of this study is whether Las Vegas Strip properties have gone green, or plan to go green. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the frequency of the environmental content of twenty-three Las Vegas Strip hotels’ websites as well as five upcoming hotel projects and one hotel expansion project on the Strip. The twenty-eight hotels are all located along Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as the Strip. All properties examined have over two thousand rooms each. The goal is to determine how prevalent and important …

College of Management Working Papers and Reports
Corporations are collaborating to meet complex global challenges heretofore considered beyond the mandate of business leaders. These multi organizational consortia are not philanthropic efforts but operate within market parameters with limited input from Non Governmental Organizations. In order to examine some dynamics of successful collaborative processes, we pursue an in-depth multi-method case study of “The Sustainability Consortium,” which has convened numerous Fortune 50 senior managers since 1999. We uncover the primacy of “relational space” – a rich context of trust and inquiry – within which participants create innovative projects for doing business in a sustainable way. Our analysis uncovers the …

In January 2005, Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Purdue- Calumet were invited to partner with the Alverno Clinical Labs in adapting Lean Six Sigma methodologies for use within healthcare. Our initial project focused on optimization of lab services for the emergency department at the Saint Margaret Mercy Hospitals in Hammond, IN. This project resulted in reduction of lab test report time to the emergency department from 75 minutes to less than 35 minutes. These results have been sustained from the initial implementation to present – over 14 months. Additionally, this project has been successfully implemented across two …

Strategic Ambiguity As A Discourse Practice: The Role Of Keywords In The Discourse On ‘Sustainable’ Biotechnology, S. R. Leitch, S. Davenport
Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)
In this article we examined the ways in which strategic ambiguity (Eisenberg, 1984) in the use of keywords (Williams, 1976/1983) served an enabling function within a discourse marked by conflict and ideological divisions. Our analysis focused on the intertextual relationships between five documents intended by the Government to guide the development of biotechnology in New Zealand. Through our analysis we identified ‘sustainability’ as a keyword and three major roles for the deployment of the discourse strategy of strategic ambiguity in the use of this keyword. First, strategic ambiguity lent an internal and intertextual coherence to the texts (albeit superficial). Second, …
